CONDITION REPORT
When I was first contacted about the existence of a "practically mint condition, two owner 1968 Newport Custom that looked like it was 1969 again", I was not too excited. I get a lot of phone calls from friends and clients, and sometimes what they think is a fantastic looking car pales in comparison to what my trained eyes see.
This time, the car FAR EXCEEDED my expectations, and has got to be one of the nicest, unmolested, and well maintained examples of practically ANYTHING else I have ever come across!
A true, two owner car, with reciepts and bill of sales to show it, the car is a stunning example of a Newport Custom, and is already climbing in value along with the other Chrysler products after the demise of the Chrysler Corporation a few years ago.
Not another one like it anywhere, and simply the finest example that you will ever have the opportunity to purchase. Enjoy.
CONDITION
First off, let me start by saying that this is a RUST, ROT, BONDO, PATCH, and DAMAGE FREE CAR from top to bottom and front to back.
From what we can surmise, it is the original paint, which was treated to a Dealer applied paint sealant back in 1968, and has been lovingly maintained since then by the cars two owners. The sealed coat of factory MEADOW GREEN is still in exceptional condition, and has shined to a glossy finish with just a wipe down of Turtle Wax quick shine spray. I can only imagine how incredible it will look when you have it professionally buffed!
There are NO mask lines, and the car has the factory paint runs under the trunk lid that were prevalent in that time. Also, all of mounting points for trunk, fenders, hood, etc. show no signs of being removed, painted over, or worked around.
The body is incredibly straight, and shows less than a handful of tiny, normal use door dings and the like. As you can see in the 100 EXTRA LARGE photos I have provided below, it is a stunning and super clean body that looks to be in better condition than half the 2 year old cars you see in the parking lot at your local mall!
The car was originally ordered on 1/13/1968 with a $100.00 deposit from Shelby Country Chrysler-Plymouth in Galera, AL by the first owners. There is a dealer receipt for the deposit, along with the original order invoice included in the paperwork.
On 2/10/1968, the car was picked up, and the balance paid in full. A copy of the receipt for the balance paid, as well as the dealer invoice comes with the car.

The original owners passed away in 1997, and the paperwork includes a hand written bill of sale dated 5/14/1997 showing the daughter selling the car to the second owner at that time.
The second owner brought the car from Alabama to Florida, where it was used as a Sunday driver on occasion and taken to shows and regional events. It resided in a climate and humidity controlled garage when not being used, along with a collection of other vehicles and memorablila that would make any car lover smile!
This Newport is about a flaw and issue free as a car can be, and has so much originality you cannot help but shake your head in amazement when you see it for the first time!
All of the chrome and brightwork on the car is in exceptional to excellent condition, and shows no peeling, pitting, or major flaws. This includes rocker mouldings, door handles, mirrors, fender mounted signal indicators, antenna, and window trim bands.
Badging on the car is in exceptional condition as well, and the only piece missing on the car is the drivers side stick on Chrysler emblem about the size of a half dollar. I am trying to procure one, and if I do, I will include it.
The car rides on the original 14" Chrysler steel rims with Chrysler wheel covers. The covers are in average to above condition, and could use a good cleaning, and the center band stripes repainted. Center wheel cover snap in caps are all in place, and show nominal wear.
The car rides on Grand Prix Performance GT modern street radials sized P225/70R14, that were just installed less than 500 miles ago. They show blackwall now, but can be reversed for a raised white letter look if you want. The 2nd owner always kept modern radials on the car since 1997 since he actually drove it from time to time, and wanted the handling and ride features that the old bias-ply tires could not offer.
When I purchased the car about a month ago, I realized that it was about 2" too wide to fit on my single car trailer. After speaking to the prior owner, I was confident enough to hop in, fill up with premium gas, and hit the road for a 300+ mile trip home IN THE RAIN!!!
The car performed flawlessly, did not do anything funny or odd, and handled just as good in small towns as it did doing 90mph on the freeway!
A/C has been converted to R134a, and blows nice and cool, and the car drove and rode like a dream the entire time!
It tracks straight, floats along the highway on it's Torsion-Aire suspension like nothing else, and the power steering lets you change directions with just one finger on the wheel!
Power brakes are smooth and sure, and scrub off speed with minimal fade, modulation, or wander.
The factory original and numbers matching 383ci V8 runs like new, and has a great sound thanks to the dual exhaust with chrome tips the prior owner had installed about a year ago.
The optional 727 Torque-Flite transmission shifts smooth and sure, and functions as it should with no known issues.
Inside, the gorgeous Jaquard weave & Cologne grain vinyl bench with folding center armrest looks almost new, and the whole interior shows like a car with a quarter of the miles this one has!
No tears, rips, prior repairs, patches, or seam pulls are evident, and from the door panels to the headline, everything shows incredibly well kept and beautiful!
Dash is crack and fade free, and all of the gauges appear to be functioning as they should.
Every single interior light is functional and working as it should, including the ashtray overhead lamp, glove box light, dash lights, dome, and courtesy lamps.
The AM Radio is factory original, and functions as it should, as does the dealer installed FM Modulator that functions as it should too!!!
The carpet is in wonderful condition, and shows only the faintest signs of any wear whatsoever, and the pedals look like a car with just 76K miles should!
Steering wheel is super clean and straight, and the horn function just like you would expect it to.
All of the glass in the car is the original, factory tinted pieces that the cr was born with. No cracks, marks, or lamination issues, and the only damage is a small chipped corner on the top front of the drivers side window.
Vent windows function off rollers as they should, and side windows go up and down with ease.
All of the window fuzzies, rubber mouldings, and seals still look fantastic, and are not dry rotted or flaking thanks to the cars climate controlled storage.
Inside the trunk, the factory original jack and tire change kit is still in place, as is a full size spare, although it is not a matching tire to the four units on the car.
Factory mat is original and shows light wear, and you can lift it to reveal a solid, patch free, original trunk pan.
The floor pans on the car are original and solid, and this is due to the cars care and storage, PLUS the fact that it had a factory undercoating applied as noted on the original window sticker.
There are no signs of rot or rust on the underside of the car, and just the faintest sign of normal oxidation on bolts and exposed metal that easily wisks off with a wire brush. Should you elect to detail the undercarriage, it would be an easy job, but the originality is well worth preserving.
The engine bay is in amazing condition, and shows like it were 1969 and you were shopping for a clean used car!!!
Of course, some hoses and things were replaced over the years for reliability, but for the most part, the engine bay retains its original appearance and parts.
