Vehicle Detail
Thanks for checking out my truck. I'm going to give the gist of it up here and then my little story at the bottom. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. I'll try to address everything here. 1996 GMC K2500 Suburban SLT 4x4 Diesel138,300 miles3.73 G80 locker 14 bolt full floating rear endengine block heaterpower windowspower lockspower leather seatskeyless entryfront and rear A/Ccruise controltow packagerunning boards3rd row seat, and optionally a raised bed installed in the back with drawers underneath itGetting 20mpg, easily over 700 miles per tank. And my story: I bought this truck to drive across the country, I've completed my goal and now it's for sale. I actually really love it, but where I live you can't park on the street overnight and I'm running out of room and just don't have the need for a truck this big anymore. I spent about 7 months and 13,000 miles on the road before returning to NY and basically used this as my house as you can see in a couple of the pictures. So I needed the best. I specifically bought it from a gentleman in Virginia because it had not been through any harsh north east winters. I got the best I could, and then spent $1500 more on it in parts alone just to make sure absolutely everything was taken care of and I'd have no problems driving it across the country. Has always started right up for me and ran with no issues, while skiing in freezing temperatures in Colorado or over 100 degrees at the grand canyon. Has taken me up and down plenty of mountain passes on my trip. I don't have maintenance records from previous owners, except one.The injection pump and PMD were done at 98,000 miles at the dealership to the tune of $2,000 by a previous owner which I have the receipt for. This is part of the reason why I picked this particular truck. Other then that, everything was done by me about 13,000 miles ago. This was not some beat up ratty truck, I just wanted to do everything while I had the chance working in a shop, before driving across the country. I went over everything on this truck, it should be good to go for a long time. So all of this is just about brand new:5 firestone transforce AT 10 ply load range E tires including spare (265/75/16, one size up from stock)Bilstein heavy duty shocksDiamond Eye 4" exhaustNew rear brake shoes, wheel bearings, 2 brake lines which were bent, drums cutIdler arm and pitman armwindshield wiperscooling system flushed with dexcoolrear diff fluid changedair filterfuel filteroil changed with mobil one turbo diesel truck (and again a couple of times on the road)2 new batteries, one converted to top post with new clampsAdded a JVC cd player with USB connectionIt's a clean truck, but 16 years old and not perfect. There are some scratches, some chips, and a couple of small dents on the drivers door. Neither power mirror works. The drivers side was broken when I got the truck. The passenger side was hit in a parking lot while I was on the road and I replaced it with a junkyard non-power mirror. Under the truck is clean and dry. The drivers side seat leather is worn through on the side bolster from sliding in and out of the truck. The previous owner was an older gentleman who couldn't really hop up into the seat. It's missing one of the knobs for the rear A/C controls. There is a hole in the dash under the radio where the factory CD player used to be. The front bumper on the right corner was ever so lightly tweaked at some point, the corner lens on that side also has a small crack in it, and the blinker light had been replaced with an aftermarket unit and is clearer than the other side. Honestly all of this is hardly noticeable and you can see it in the pictures. I'm assuming a previous owner had a minor parking lot incident. The front rotors are ever so slightly warped. Like so slightly that most of the time you won't even notice, but I just want to address everything here. That was the only other mechanical thing I was thinking of taking care of before driving cross country, but the pads had enough life left, and I decided I would just save it for the future when the front brakes needed to be done. The ABS light is on. This is one thing I never even looked into because I personally dislike ABS. Most likely from my experience with these trucks it is probably a cheap sensor. I will try and scan it and update this ad so at least everyone knows what it is. The previous owner had always used a fuel additive, and I always use optilube xpd. This is important on these older trucks that were made before ultra low sulfer diesel came out. I have taken great care of it, obviously to get me across the country and back safely, but I've also planned out my maintenance with the intention of keeping it for a long time. I've just decided at this point that I don't need something this big anymore, especially with the parking restrictions. Will come with 2 sets of keys, a spare PMD that I picked up, and extra serpentine belt that I brought with me on the road just in case, and the rest of my optilube xpd supply. I have no reserve on this, so it will sell. Please be serious in your bidding as I need to get rid of this in a timely fashion. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Something I just noticed, you will see some minor surface rust in the pictures under the truck. This is in fact there, but it's honestly not nearly as bad as it looks. I think the flash from the camera just highlights it. I certainly invite anyone to come check it out in person and drive it. I am located in White Plains, NY Jason Jason On Oct-22-12 at 06:53:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi everyone, I realized I have a couple of things to add that may not be noticeable in the pictures and I didn't really mention. Since theres a lot of long distance bidders interested and not everyone is going to check it out in person before hand I want you to know what you're getting. First of all there are 2 small rock chips in the windshield. Both have been there since before I got the truck and I see no reason for them to crack/spread since they haven't so far. One is off to the left by the A-pillar and not really bothering anyone. The other is in your field of vision though. It's probably a few inches right and a few inches lower than my head while sitting in the seat. Another issue is that the hood latch release is missing inside. Not really a big deal, you just pull the cable itself to pop the hood. And lastly and probably most difficult for me to explain is the center armrest on the 2nd row seat. It has 2 arms on each side that move which attach to a solid bracket. They are able to come free on one side and make the armrest go crooked if you are not gentle when lowering it. If this happens you have to remove the plastic cover on the side of it and pop these arms back into place. If you just leave it folded up there is no problem with it and it stays there fine. As for viewing the truck, I'm available all week, just send me a message and we can set something up. As for shipping, I'm willing to work with you and arrange a time where I can be there for a company to pick it up. As for flying in/driving out, the closest most convenient airport to me is White Plains. I'd prefer if you could get there, but I know there are less flights and it may be more expensive. I could do other NY area airports, but they are further and can potentially have lots of traffic depending on the time of day, so talk to me first about doing that. As for driving this somewhere far, yes it's good to go, I just did the entire country in a big round about loop so I have full confidence in it. Jason On Oct-25-12 at 07:26:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello again, couple of more things to add. First, I did finally get to a shop and get the ABS scanned, and it is just a sensor as I expected. The front right wheel speed sensor is not giving a signal. So if you want to get the ABS light off that is all that would have to be replaced. Also, about flying in and driving home, I realized I kept telling people the closest airport is White Plains, it's actually called Westchester County airport, and it's in White Plains. I'm sure if you looked up White Plains airport that it would come up, but I just wanted to clarify that. Thanks again.Jason And since some of you were curious, this is the route I did in this truck from January through August of this year. So I'm fairly confident it can make a trip to just about anywhere. I do have about 2,000 miles left on this current oil change, so if you plan to go further than that upon pickup that is something to think about.
