Vehicle Detail

#1 of 20 Jim Clark Commemorative Package 1991 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE Before describing the car, just a little new info.....The car just had a pre-purchase inspection performed. The shop that performed the work contacted the original owner and helped obtain the original bill of sale and ALL receipts for ALL work performed on the car from the original owner!!!.....so I now have the bill of sale from the original owner where he purchased the car on November 6, 1992 along with every single maintenance record of warranty and non-warranty work performed by the dealer where the car was purchased new, Motor Coach Sales (later purchased by Antwerpen Dodge / Lotus) in Randallstown, Maryland since it was purchased in 1992. After the dealership closed, sometime around 1998, the current repair facility, Treasured Motorcars in Owings Mills MD, has performed all of the work on this car. Please continue to ask any questions you may have. I have been an Ebay member for well over a decade and pride myself in my track record and feedback rating. I don't claim to always know everything, especially when assisting a friend with a listing as is the case here however; I am committed to obtaining the answers to all of your questions as quickly and accurately as possible. I have worked very hard to maintain my good standing with Ebay and its members and I will continue to do so.Here are details of the service records from 1998-current. I have now obtained ALL service records, 24 records in total, from when the car was purchased NEW on November 6, 1992 through October 2012. October 2012, PPI performed, Master cylinder and brake accumulator replaced, AC duct reconnected at Binnacle. Sept. 2010 - Scheduled maintenance service, change oil and filter, top up fluids, general check over, replaced spark plugs replaced and air filter. July 2007 - Major service performed: The service record lists the following: The water pump was leaking and there was some seeping at the charge cooler. Engine dismantled to access rear cam tower seals and replace. Water pump was removed for rebuilding. Timing belt was removed. Water pump was refit to engine. Charge Cooler pump was removed, dismantled and inspected. rear cam tower covers were resealed.Charge Cooler pump was rebuilt. new timing belt was fit and adjusted. Charge Cooler pump was fitted. required engine reassembly was performed.Coolant refilled. Misc fuel hoses and clamps were replaced. Oil change and filter. Vehicle was road-tested, etc. In total, the AC and timing belts along with one other belt were replaced along with 2 O-rings, a water pump rebuild kit and Charge Cooler pump repair kit. The total bill for parts and labor was $3,173.00 Mileage listed as 36,888 at time of these repairs. April 2004 - The fuel tank vent tube was replaced. Fluid levels checked. (Since these documents were faxed to me, many of the service records after this date are not very legible. I will request the originals from the repair facility and pass those on to the new owner.) September 2000 - Freon was recharged, a fuel filter was replaced and it looks like the ECM was replaced. August 1999 - 4 tires were replaced. Alignment performed. May 1999 - Ball joints and shocks replaced. The next few records are barely legible however, the repair costs were minimal so it does appear that any major work was was performed during this time. There were 11 service records retrieved in total dating from August 1998- September 2010. There are also 3 entries in the "maintenance record" section of the owners manual. The 1500 mile service was performed on January 26, 1993, an "A" service performed at 6,192 miles on 10/18/1993 and a "B" service performed at 11,099 miles on 7/15/1994. All three of these were performed and stamped by the dealer where the vehicle was purchased. It appears that both owners stayed on top of any required maintenance as well as addressing any other issues that came up. The most significant repair performed prior to 1998 appears to be that the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate etc was replaced at 22k miles. .........BACK TO THE ORIGINAL LISTING: Let me start by saying that I am assisting a friend of mine in the sale of this vehicle because he has never sold a car on Ebay. Aside from the initial required Paypal deposit, all other funds will be made payable to the vehicles owner directly. This vehicle has had 2 owners since new. It was purchased brand new from Motor Coach Sales Lamborghini and Lotus dealer in Randallstown, Maryland. (no longer in business) The orignal owner had the car until 2004 when it was purchased by the current owner. The car was designed and hand built by Lotus to commemorate famous race car driver, Jim clarks' win at Indianapolis in 1965. Only 20 of these hand-crafted supercars were ever built. Each one is numbered and this one has a brushed finish plaque attached to the dashboard that says "Jim Clark, No: 01, 1965 Indinapolis 500 winner, Twenty-Fifth Anniversary". I find it very intriguing that this particular car, being number 1 in the series of 20 ever built, is not owned either by the Lotus factory or perhaps a member of the Jim Clark family, or part of a Lotus collection, etc. The current owner has always kept the vehicle stored indoors. By looking at the car, It appears that the original owner kept the car stored indoors as well. The vehicle has always been maintained by a highly respected local independent Lotus, Jaguar, Land Rover repair facility. If anyone would like to have a pre-purchase inspection performed, this can be arranged at your expense however, I will only allow this facility to perform this inspection. This Lotus is all original however, it has had a 10-disc cd changer and alarm system installed with remote key fob for locking and un-locking the doors as well as arming the alarm system. Before listing the car for sale, I recently took it out for a nice long test drive to see how everything works and be able to describe the car as accurately as possible. Prior to driving the vehicle, I checked the fluid levels of the oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc. All fluids were at the appropriate levels and appeared to be clean. The vehicle started up easily on the first try. (The car has been outfitted with a battery tender type device mounted to the side of the battery at some point which is plugged in when not in use.) The engine idled nicely after initial start-up. All gears engaged smoothly without any unwanted noises. The car ran and drove very well. The brakes worked well. The car did not pull one way or another under braking. (The emergency brake works as well) All gauges appeared to be working properly and indicated that everything was operating at the appropriate temperatures, pressures, etc. Vehicle Condition: Mechanically: This car is in great condition. The engine performance is quite astounding for its size! The transmission shifts nicely. All mechanical systems, braking, steering, etc seem to be working very well. In the research that I have done, these cars do not like to sit and not be used so, it seems that the somewhat regular use of this car over its lifetime has helped to keep everything in good working order unlike a low mileage example that is often plagued with many mechanical issues......none of that here! Exterior: The British Racing Green color paint with yellow stripes is overall in very good condition with high shine and no peeling of the clearcoat, etc. There are some chips and scratches on the car as one would expect for a car of this age / mileage. The wheels do not have any curb damage of any kind. The wheel lips would benefit from some treatment with a quality metal polish. I would estimate that the tires have about 20-30% tread remaining. The car still has both original roof panels that it came with when new; one finished in body color and the other is transparent glass. Each have their own bag that they can be stored in. There is also a factory wind deflector that can be installed when the roof panel has been removed. The owner said that this piece is cracked however, I am going to look at it to see if it can be repaired as it is made of fiberglass. I will update the listing once I have a chance to look at this piece. Interior: Overall, the interior is in good condition. There are no cracks in the dash or rips in any of the leather or carpeted surfaces. There is however some normal wear in the leather and carpets as expected for a vehicle of this age and mileage. There is also some cracking in the Burl Elm wood dash fascia that surrounds the gauges in the binnacle. The leather is a buttery tan color with green piping on the seats to match the traditional Lotus color scheme of rest of the car. I have done my best to describe the car as accurately as possible. If you have any questions, please email me and I will respond as quickly as possible. I would encourage any one who is seriously interested in the car to make arrangements with me to see the car in person prior to the end of the auction. After the auction ends is NOT the time for someone to determine whether or not they want the car. Please only bid if you have the funds in place to complete the sale. There is no warranty on this vehicle. It is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties expressed or implied. This vehicle is being listed for sale elsewhere and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason. Shipping / transport of this vehicle is the buyers responsibility. The terms of the sale are as follows: There is a non-refundable $500 deposit due via paypal within 24 hours of the auctions end. The balance of the money will be due within 7 days of the auctions end. The car must be picked up within 10 days of auctions end. ALL funds must clear before the vehicle will be released to the buyer. Cash, wire transfer and certified funds are the only payment methods accepted. Again, all payment methods, including certified bank checks will have to clear sellers bank before the car will leave his posession. Thank you for your interest in this item.
