Vehicle Detail
I have for sale, a 1968 Pontiac GTO, that I have owned for 6 years. I purchased it from a close friend who owned since 1987 and I also knew the previous owner, who owned it since 1983. It is a real GTO, vin 24237, and is a PHS documented GTO. Built in the Pontiac Michigan assembly Plant in November of 1967. Shipped 12-12-1967 Original option list 400 H.O. 4 speed manual β Muncie wide ratio. Safe-t-track rear axle Power Steering Power brakes HD 7 Blade fan & fan clutch Glass β softray, all windows Radio Push button and Manual antenna Rear seat speaker Door edge guards Retractable Headlamp covers Mirror, visor vanity Mirror outside remote Tach, hood mounted Rally II wheels Console Electric clock G77 x 14 Red Line tires Air cleaner, dual stage HD. Exterior Color = code R = Solar Red Cordova Top= code I - Ivory top Interior color- Parchment white code 224 Options added: Front disc brakes Rally Guages AM/FM Cassette stereo (JVC) Exhaust tips This car has been in storage for most of the last 5 years, when I purchased it, it needed some work to make it driveable. I replaced and rebuilt the engine, replaced the engine wire harness, replaced the sagging coil springs and put new redline tires and exhaust. The engine compartment was cleaned up and the trunk was detailed. Also had the original 4 core radiator re-cored. The car has all the original body parts. Has never had ΒΌ panels, doors, fenders, hood or bumpers replaced. The car was painted one time its orginal color in 1985. The body does show its age with bubbles and scratches here and there. Paint is cracked and scraped on the Endura bumper. The vinyl top has one tear and bubbles underneath, near the rear window. The trunk lock was punched out during its life and still works, but will need repaired. The floors are good as well as the trunk floor. There is some rust starting between the trunk floor and inner wheel houses on both sides. The hood needs a little adjustment, and might have a slight bend in the middle. Engine was completely rebuilt, being bored, with new forged pistons and correct HO camshaft (068), has correct 16 heads and intake and carburetor. It is a 1968 WT 400 but not the original 400 as the serial numbers do not match and the block code should be WS. Exhaust is new consisting of new HO manifolds, new mufflers, pipes, and stainless extensions. Car runs and drives fine, Hood tach works as well. It is a new hood tach. Headliner has a couple holes in it above the sunvisor β but included is a new headliner in the box. Also included is a new vinyl top in the box. Has a new battery with a vintage-looking cap for the top, so it looks like an original Delco. I has the correct spring ring battery cables. It has new headlight cover actuators and they work, but they creep up after a few minutes after car is shut off. Has 4 JC code 14x6 rally wheels, with Red line F70 bias ply tires (Firestone) Odometer shows 81,000, had 71,000 on it 25 years ago. Interior is nice, Parchment seats, there are a few cracks in the dash pad. There is a JVC stereo installed and 6x9 speakers in the back package tray. Has rally gauges.Leaks a little power steering fluid. Clutch is new as well. Also, this has 3.55:1 gears in the original rear axle. ********************* So there it is, an original 1968 GTO 400 HO 4 speed - what more could you ever want? :) Keep in mind they only made 6,197 HO 4 speeds, (out of 77,000 1968 GTO's) so don't settle for a run of the mill GTO, this one is pretty rare.
