Vehicle Detail
Hello fellow Volvo enthusiasts! I am offering a super rare 1971 Volvo 145S with 90k original miles, with some really great options such as the 4 speed with overdrive (M41) transmission, a factory sunroof and a third seat! The owner I purchased it from was the 3rd, he bought it and was told the car was bought in Paris originally (euro only options such as the sunroof could support) and was shipped back to Washington, DC, then back to Sweden and Paris before returning to DC. It was mentioned to me that the original owner worked for the State Department. Check out the pictures: the car is in an unbelievably original state with excellent condition door panels, a perfect dash pad and of course the mileage and awesome options. The under hood literally shines back at you on the wheel arches and the underside of the hood. The car has great wheels, the trim rings and hub caps and tires in good condition. The glass is super clean, nearly free of any scrapes and just gleams. There no evidence of any rust in the common areas such as the spare tire wells, rockers, door jambs or floor. There are a few areas of exception to mention such as the left rear wheel arch and a small area of the left rear door jamb (see photo) and then there is the beginning of well intended paint surface repairs which are marred by the primer spots or other marks (all begun and not completed by the prior owner). The repairs, again well intended, have not caused more problems they just need to be finished up. The roof polished out very well and I have to assume the entire car is in original paint as there is not any evidence of paint lines or overspray anywhere that I have noticed. The interior is very clean, with tears to the driver's seat bottom upholstery, the passenger seat bottom has a small tear and overall all seat cushions are firm and comfortable. Again, the dash pad is in great shape aside from the metal being cut at the radio - a cardinal sin in my book. It would take a good, uncut, facia piece or dash structure to restore to original but the more rare crack free dash pad is perfect so I think this will be ok. The steering wheel is in good shape but the horn pad has deterioration on edges. The overdrive stalk has been replaced with a generic switch. The center console is great but the armrest has some typical wear with torn vinyl. There is an original floor mat at the driver's floor with wear/tear as shown. There was some labeling done on the dash, perhaps for DOT certification although the knobs are not in Swedish so I am not sure what transpired here. The speedometer has a wearing off second ribbon above the mph ribbon for kilometers as shown in the photos. The third seat is nearly perfect and really neat, seat bottom cushion is loose. Aluminum trim, bumpers and other trim is all in great shape for age and appears all original, see photos. The B20 with SU carbs starts and runs well and doesn't leak on the garage floor. The M41 overdrive transmission is smooth shifting and the OD is smooth on both engagement and disengagement - there is a video I made of the start up, run down the road a mile and shut off - just ask me for it. The car is very tight, quiet and really very pleasant to drive. I bought it a few weeks ago (from eBay) with the intention of using the B20, M41, disc brake rear and wheels for a 122 project I am in the middle of but this car was too nice, very original and needs to go to a great enthusiast of 140s. I have spent hours getting it running smoother, cleaning it inside and out and doting on various bits and pieces. If you have any questions please ask! I have loads more pictures than the 24 allowed here, so please ask for them. Thanks for looking!
