The man would then sell us this beautiful Galaxie convertible he had for 25 years. His brother had bought it from the dealer and it was their special occasion car. They would take it wine tasting in Sonoma or for seafood in Monterey. He would change his mind about selling every time so the last time we headed over straight away. The interior was lavishly redone by King Kovers on Broadway. The red interior is sumptuous and supple. I love it. The top was also redone at the same time and is in good condition. It looks a little more beige than the exterior paint. The carpet is the thickest red pile I have ever seen. It's so dense it's like fur. There's been no water damage to this beautiful interior. When I washed it thoroughly all the seals held out the water. I was very pleased that the trunk was water tight and dry. The original trunk liner is good, right down to the little cardboard covers over the quarter voids. I hand polished much of the chrome over a couple of afternoons and I can tell you I marveled over the fitment and finish. All the cranks and windshield handles are in good shape with little pitting. The horn center is also good and the horn works. The radio works also. I love the aero dynamic windshield visors. The power top goes up and down with ease. Clamping it down, requires two however. The top clamps are very heavy units, much nicer than Mustangs and other convertibles I've had. The exterior trim is okay. Some pieces have been dented but that's their job right? The grill looks very sharp as do both headlight trim pieces. The rear bumper has a small bend inward. Both taillight rings have some dings on them. The body appears to have been re-spayed once. This car has the greatest bones. It's never been over-restored. Everybody cheerfully hoots out, "Nice Car!" It's got an original vibe that is quite appealing to passer-bys. The tops of the rear quarters have some odd little dings. The passenger door and front fender rub wearing off the paint. In the performance department this Galaxie is a cruiser. The dual exhausts are subtle and burbling. It gets up to 65 mph fine and I keep it right there. The camera phones come out and click away pictures as I float down the freeway like a big cloud. The motor powers the heavy car up the hills just fine. The valves are loud. We drive up to the ridge cruising and the fun continues. All the windows roll down smoothly. You can drive this anywhere and be a hit without overdoing it. This is an elegant Galaxie, are you ready for some good company?
