Vehicle Detail
This 1970 911T has lots of potential. It runs and drives beautifully -- can be enjoyed reliably right now but needs paint and bodywork to bring it back to its former glory. I will try to focus on the low points and high points of the car to describe it as accurately as possible -- you are welcome to come look at and drive it. I purchased this car to drive while "freshening it up" however I just don't have the time to devote to the project. My loss is your gain. The good:Numbers matching (so I’m told) 2.2 runs very well. Has desirable Weber triple-throat carb setup, makes good power, leaks very little, good oil pressure. Has documented engine rebuild history, Carrera chain tensioner upgrade, fresh oil service.Lots of service records, back to the late 80s Suspension, steering and brakes feel great. This car feels stiffer than my 84 3.2 -- maybe its because its lighter or maybe it has stiffer t-bars and shocks, I'm not sure. But I would characterize the feel of the car as crisp and nimble.Clutch and gearbox (901 dogleg 5-speed) feel good. Shifter is a little sloppy -- I just replaced the front shifter bushing and now I think that the linkage is a little out of adjustment. Early "cookie cutters" in good shape with good tires.OE horn grilles with driving light cut-outs and factory driving light mounts behind, factory driving light switch in dash -- obviously it does not have the correct lights fitted. Most of the interior is original, intact and presentable. The door panels and armrests are in very good condition (better than most I have seen) however the pockets under the armrests are missing and I do not have them. Dash looks good, all gauges are working except for the clock. The odometer DOES WORK however the trip odometer does not. There is a molded plastic "dash cap" on the top of the dash, I do not know the condition of the dash underneath.Upholstery and carpet looks good, horsehair pads in seats are weak. Glass and trim is in good condition. Windows and locks function properly. All lights, signals, wipers, etc are working. Floors are pretty solid -- more on that belowThe original steering wheel (less horn pad), the original air box, and other miscellaneous parts are included. The Bad: Paint is poor -- it looks like it was painted at Maaco or somewhere that does that caliber of work many years ago. The paint does not have a nice gloss to it and there is trash in the finish. It needs a full paintjob to look presentable. Evidence of bad bodywork and paint "touchup" over that work. Notably there is filler in the bottom of left and right front fenders and some in the rear quarters along the edge that meets the door. The drivers door bottom has rust in it that has been patched over poorly. Door skins have some filler in the front bottoms (where they meet the front fenders). The rear quarters look pretty good. Hood is solid but has a few minor dings in it. Pretty much every body panel will need work of some sort, whether its taking out little dings or undoing bad bondo work in the front fenders. The worst part of the car is where the front fenders meet the cowl piece at the windshield. There is supposed to be a piece of rubber welt between the panels but they have been bondoed over. I was hoping this was a "cosmetic upgrade" that someone made in the 80s when they were snorting too much coke but unfortunately, after grinding out the filler on the drivers side, it is evident that there had been some rust there that was ground out and filled over. I have put primer back on this spot but did not cover it back up so that you can see what is going on.Floors look pretty good, there is a small spot (half dollar?) on the passenger side rear floor pan. The battery boxes and smuggler’s box have some fiberglass patchwork. The front suspension pan has been replaced and the inner rockers have been replaced too -- I did not do this work, it looks like it was done well but I don’t know when or who did it. There may be things I am missing as I have not been around the underside with a fine tooth comb but I have looked around as best I can. I think it can be left alone for a while but come look for yourself. The front bumper is a RS style fiberglass piece, it's in good condition but not original to the car so it gets put in the "bad" categoryThe left and right rear bumpers are correct to the car, obviously the inner section is not. It's a fiberglass piece and as you can see there is a rather gaudy muffler setup behind it, which has a slight exhaust leak The Targa top is in great shape, unfortunately it is not an original Porsche targa top, it is a fiberglass aftermarket piece made by the Saratoga Sunroof Corp. In short -- this car can be driven reliably just like it is but it really deserves to be restored -- it is rough but redeemable. Oh by the way, it was originally the best 911 color ever -- Conda Green! Low reserve. I am happy to accommodate showings, I can also coordinate shipping if need be. The 911 is currently registered and insured in Georgia. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
