Vehicle Detail
On August 21, 1967 a new Chevrolet Caprice was delivered to its new owner at Courtesy Chevrolet. This Caprice was not your typical 327 version of Chevrolets flagship. It was a loaded out 2 door coupe with the factory installed 396/325 horsepower big block. This Caprice was also equipped with power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt steering column, Comfortron climate control and the awesome 8 track stereo system. It was finished in the very striking color combination of Emerald Turquoise with black interior and a black vinyl top. It was licensed through the California DMV and received its original California Black Plates VAU 112 and the Courtesy Chevrolet license plate frames that it still wears today. The original owner kept the car and drove it sparingly for one year. It was traded back in to Courtesy Chevrolet in 1968 and placed on their used car lot. Thats when Richard and Virginia Hall found the Caprice for sale only a few miles from their home in San Diego, and decided to purchase the big block Caprice. Mr. Hall was a very meticulous kind of gentleman, he'd been a military guy his whole life and in 1968 was working for the defense department. Mr. Hall was very particular about his new Caprice and pretty much documented everything that had ever been done to the car, every gallon of gas and every mile that was put on the car from 1968 to just a few years ago when he was no longer able to drive the car. The odometer shows 51,000 miles and there is no question that the miles are actual with Mr. Halls journals. It is easy to see the progression of miles over the years as they slowly climbed to the 51,000 mile plateau. Mr. Hall is now 90 years old and has been moved to a nursing home. The caprice was discovered when the real estate company was hired to clean out the residence and get it ready to sell. It was hard to see a car in the garage when the door was first opened. You see, Mr. Hall had become quite a horder in the last decade or so and the poor old Caprice was buried in a mountain of newspapers and quilts. The pictures below document the unearthing and removal of the car. It was removed, the gas tank cleaned, carb rebuilt, a new battery installed and the car fired right up. The 396 purrs like a kitten and runs down the road very nice. The beauty of the car is that it never left Southern California. The body is totally rust free. The engine is absolutely untouched. The power windows work perfectly and the interior is very nice with the exception of a split in the drivers side of the front seat. The comfortron actually works through all of its functions and kicks the compressor on but will need more freon to make the a/c cold. It still wears its original paint from 1967 and is not bad considering its 45 years old. The only body damage is on the left front fender where Mr. Hall scraped the side of the garage years ago. The trunk and the floors are very very nice and are evidence of the mild southern California climate. Overall this car is a killer example of an untouched original car with its original black plates, and factory paperwork. Add the fact that it is a heavily loaded car with an unusual paint code, and we have a pretty special car here. I bought the car and brought it over to Scottsdale less than a week ago. It may be the first time it has ever left Southern California. I have since brought the Caprice to my home in Kansas City and have been driving it regularly. I have done a few things such as put all new tires on it, and replace the drivers side roof rail weatherstrip. The car drives absolutely fabulous. I took a few pictures here in KC to show the new tires on the car. When doing some detailing on the car the other day I also found a salesmans card from Courtesy Chevrolet that will be included in the sale also. See picture. I also have old California registrations that are not pictured with the paperwork. I am offering this car at no reserve. Please do not bid unless you intend to buy. I encourage all potential bidders to come drive and inspect the car in person before bidding. You will not be disappointed! Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the auction end. I require full payment within 7 days of the auction close. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
