Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE The vehicle up for auction is a 1971 AMC Hornet SC/360. The SC/360 Hornet is a single year production model with only 784 ever produced and only 113 known to exist today. This is not a clone as evident by the ‘6’ in the Vehicle Identification Number. According to the SC/360 Registry, this is 1 of 3 remaining that is painted Quick Silver Metallic. This is an original 4-speed car as evident by the ‘M’ in the VIN. The 360 V8 is not original (numbers do not match) but has been rebuilt with an after market cam and new Edelbrock 750 CFM 4bbl carburetor. The rebuild resulted in a very strong engine. When it connects with the Twin Grip rear end, which I suspect has 4:10 gears, it is an absolute thrill to drive. This particular SC/360 Hornet spent much of its life in Sparks, Nevada before making its way to North Dakota in the early 1980’s where it sat in a garage until we purchased it in 2003. The body is solid and free of rust. I have service documentation dating back to 1974 that will remain with the car. In 2009, it was repainted in its original Quick Silver. This was not a professional paint job and as a result the vehicle is what I would consider a “twenty-footer” – paint looks great from 20 feet away. Any closer and one can see some overspray and other minor defects. The doorjambs, engine compartment and trunk lid have been re-painted. A buffer and a little elbow grease could take this car to the next level. The signature SC/360 stripe is black and makes for a striking appearance against the bright silver. Driver’s side door plaque indicates the following: Build Date: 12-70 Body: 042028 Model: 7106-1 (SC/360) Trim: 141D (Black Vinyl) Paint: B3 (Quicksilver Metallic) This Hornet has factory exhaust manifolds and a new dual exhaust system with welded seams. In the trunk you will find an original OEM space saver tire with air inflation bottle. It has power brakes with front discs from the factory but did not come equipped with power steering. All glass is free from cracks but some pitting should be expected considering the age of the vehicle. The floors are solid along with the trunk and rocker panels. The interior dash is in good condition. Carpet is in excellent condition. The fuel gauge stays on E. It has the original AM radio but does not emit sound when turned on. The left rear drum has a slow brake fluid leak. The seats have been reupholstered several years ago and are in excellent condition. The hood scoop is not an original but is a fiberglass replica purchased from Eddie Stakes, current owner of the SC/360 registry. The hood scoop still needs the nostrils knocked out. AMC slotted Rally Wheels are in good condition and sit inside new BF Goodrich Radial T/As with raised white letters. This is a rare muscle car with straight lines and a solid, rust free body. Given its brief history and limited production this SC/360 Hornet is a great addition to any collection and very well deserving of a complete restoration. If you are not a collector this car is a fantastic driver and/or restoration project. All bidders should understand that this description is not an all-inclusive list of the work that may be needed to fully restore the car. Visit the following link to hear some exhaust notes from a couple years back. Video Here (This is the same car up for auction, posted on my Youtube channel.) General information on the 1971 AMC SC/360 Hornet can be found at the following links: SC/360 Registry - http://www.planethoustonamx.com/sc360/sc_registry.htm Hemmings Motor News has a great article on AMC's 1971 SC/360 Hornet. I have decided not to link it to this auction as the article includes pictures of an SC very similar in color to the one up for auction and might cause confusion. If you wish to view the article one can find it easily by searching Google for '1971 AMC Hornet SC/360' Be sure to view the May 2009 article. ***This is the third time this vehicle has been listed on eBay in the past week. The first time the auction was pulled by eBay claiming that my images were borrowed from another seller’s auction. I addressed the issue directly with eBay who admitted they made a mistake and confirmed that the images and text, including terms and conditions were NOT in violation of their policy. eBay allowed me to relist the auction, which I did. The seller then contacted me directly and took issue with the text used in the auction including terms and conditions. After further double-talk from eBay, I decided that it was in my best interest to end the auction and revise the text in question. This auction contains the revised text, including terms and condition. I apologize to the previous bidders for any inconvenience that this has caused and want to reassure everyone that this car will be sold through eBay and no other medium. I have reduced the auction duration to 7 days and removed the reserve.***On Sep-24-12 at 20:24:31 PDT, seller added the following information: Uploaded two more videos to my Youtube channel. Both are from a couple years back. Video #2 HERE and Video #3 HERE .On Sep-29-12 at 12:45:49 PDT, seller added the following information: 9/29/12: Here are a couple responses to questions that have been emailed to me recently. I'm not sure why they are not posting to the auction. Question: Are there any dents or other imperfections in the body. Answer: Some small dings were addressed using spot putty when the car was repainted in 2009. Again this was not a professional job so some imperfections are still visible. Please do not assume the body is "show car quality". The body panel seams are even and the doors do not hang. Question: What year is the motor? Answer: The motor is either a 1973 or 1974 360 V8 which has been rebuilt. It is connected to an original T-10 4 speed transmission. The valve covers were Quick silver to match the car and use up the remaining paint we had leftover. The tag number on the passenger side valve cover reads 609P10. Question: Are the rivets in the drivers door trim tag original. Answer: The trim tag was removed when the doorjambs were re-painted. After painting the trim tag was re-rivetted back into its original location. The VIN tag on the drivers door was never removed and was simply taped over when re-painted. Send me an email if you would like to see pictures of the trim tag and VIN tag from the drivers door. Question: Why are you selling? Answer: I'm selling for two reasons.1.) Our family has owned 4 SCs since my father purchased his first when he was in college. He started the SC registry and handed it over to Eddie Stakes in 2001. While the SC helped define my family growing up I feel these cars deserve to be completely restored and enjoyed by everyone, not just those who visit my garage. I am hoping it goes to someone who can appreciate its limited history and hopefully restore it to show car quality. Perhaps it will actually make it to an AMO or NAMDRA event.2.) In May I became a first time Father to a beautiful little girl. The proceeds of this auction will be deposited into her college savings account. On Sep-30-12 at 14:23:40 PDT, seller added the following information: 9/30/12 Additional details regarding documentation history for this SC Hornet. 10/11/1974 Original engine was replaced with another 360 V8 by Ammerman's Automotive, Reno, Nevada. 10/25/1976 Optional steering wheel purchased and installed by Cal-Vada Auto (Jeep dealer), Reno, Nevada. 10/6/1975 Body repainted original Quick Silver Metallic by Unknown. 6/4/1980 Front carpet was replaced by Lee-Dan's Auto Upholstery, Reno, Nevada. 6/1/1974 Radio and Speaker repaired and replaced, respectively. Determined speaker was cause of radio failure. Work done by Greenbrae Chevron, Sparks, Nevada. 1/15/1976 Seats re-upholstered by ABC Upholstery, Reno Nevada. 2/27/1978 1979 Nevada Vehicle Registration Card - Registered to Orris D. Mc Cauley Jr. 296 E Quail St., Sparks Nevada 89431. License plate number WCU 431. I have many other receipts including brake jobs, oil changes, tune ups, tire replacement, misc bulbs, water pump, gauges etc. All documented. I did a bit of research regarding the original hood scoop that belonged to this car. Back in 2003-2004 timeframe my father and I had posted an Electric Blue SC on eBay, (VIN AIM061P236366) which sold for $12,100. You can see pictures of the blue hornet on the SC Registry website. The blue hornet did not have an original hood scoop and we negotiated with the buyer to install the one from this car onto the blue hornet. We then purchased a replica hood scoop from Eddie Stakes which is currently installed on the car currently up for auction.
