I had checked out AutoCheck prior to the purchase and there were no issues or accidents listed. The former owner related this story to me; the car was in actuality a one family car. The car was originally purchased for his sister, she drove it for years and it ultimately went into the garage as her situation changed. He decided to bring it to his home and resurrect it for old time sake. He is the Chief Mechanic for all of New Jersey for one of the three largest package delivery companies in the country. Since this was to be his love child he spared no expense in making it a reliable specimen of the car from his youth. He spent over $10,000 in parts and an additional $4000. on body and cosmetics. Here is a partial list of what he has put into the car: New rack and pinion steering gear All new brake lines, hoses, cylinders, calipers, pads, shoes and backing plates. Water pump. All new air conditioning compressor, condenser and dryer. New motor mounts. New Transmission mounts. New gas tank, fuel pump and filter. New heater valve. New alternator. New electric radiator cooling fan. New oil cooler. Complete .10 over engine rebuild. Complete transaxle/transmission rebuild. New windshield. New top. New set of Michelin PLT Exalto tires. New fuel distributer. New injectors and lines. New ignition distributer wires and coil. New full stainless exhaust system from the manifold to the tail pipe. All suspension has ne bushings. New struts and springs on all wheels. New CV joints. New cooling system hoses. New starter. New battery and cables. New carpet. The seats and door panels have all been re-dyed. There is not now, nor was there ever any rust in, on or around this car. It is super solid! Since this was a five year project of love he spent way too much, replacing parts that still worked well. After about 95% completion he lost interest and wanted to move on to another project. When I got the car the speedometer showed about 133,000 miles bud the cable was missing. I don’t know what the actual mileage is but the car runs like a dream. In examining some of his receipts I would estimate that the car has less than 90,000 miles on it and that the speedometer was probably sourced from another car. Several weeks ago I had to run up to Linden, about 150 mile round trip. It was a beautiful spring day so I took the Cabriolet. I held an even 78 MPH most of the way up and back with no problem at all. Everything on the car works with the exception of the cruise control. Neither he nor I have any use for cruise control so it was never hooked back up. At that speed you can let go of the wheel and the car tracks strait and true. The air blows cold, the heat will drive you out of the car on full and the radio works. I have the car registered as an antique vehicle in New Jersey which allows for no inspection, a one time tag fee of $42.50, a three year tag renewal with no fee and insurance for $80.00 per year. This is not a show car but a very, very clean completely rebuilt driver. I have the car for sale locally and reserve the right to remove it from auction at any time. I feel better driving this car than I did my BMW 650i, and I surly get more thumbs up and horns honked at me than I did in that. The successful high bidder will be required to send me a $500.00 deposit via PayPal and the balance by cleared funds before delivery.
