OVERVIEW
The heyday of Pro Street styling hit the scene hard from about 1990 on thanks to the initial offering of Troy Trepanier's 1960 Impala. The monochomatic, ready for the strip appeal of that car led almost two decades of builders to chase that look, and this truck was created to fit that trend perfectly.
Professionally built, well-maintained, and ready to collect trophies or speeding tickets, this Apache is a former show truck that has been reliable, issue free, and is ready to show or go right now!
CONDITION REPORT
"Pro Sweet", the nickname given to this truck by the restoration team at Classi Auto in North Carolina, is the perfect way to describe this seafoam green street machine.
With a Pro Touring style and real word driveability, this truck is just as happy sitting in line waiting to be judged at a show as it is cruising down Route 66 on a summer afternoon.
The truck was restored/built in early 2001, and has seen less than 2,300 miles since new, due to the prior owner falling ill. It has been residing in a climate and humidity controlled garage with a collection of other vehicles, where it was started monthly, driven monthly and had regular service performed every 6 months.
The truck was just safetly checked and serviced by our technician, and found to be in good running and operating order, with no known issues or items to address.
The body on the truck is straight and solid, and all of the steel parts hold on to a 4"x4" felt covered magnet for dear life! NO bondo, chicken wire, beer cans, or other short cuts on this machine!
The glass fenders are super clean and straight, and the molded in rear tail lamps look fantastic on this machine.
Hood is straight and wave free, and the roof is just as nice as the sides.
The truck was painted in 2001, and the finish still shows incredibly glossy, slick, and straight today. Yes, it does show a few stone chips and marks from normal driving, and very light fading over the headlamps, but as you can see in the 100 EXTRA LARGE and CLOSE UP photos below, it is not really bad at all. Most eBay motors sellers would call it perfect and move on, but I try to tell you everything I possibly can about a car in pictures and words!
Cab corners, frenched power antenna hole, and smoothed seams round out the custom features on the trucks body, and things get topped off with a vintage visor that looks great and keeps things cool inside.
The front grille and bumper were sanded smooth and treated to the same green monochromatic finish, while the rear bumper was re-chromed to perfection.
Door handles and sport mirrors also have the monochromatic look, with light marks from normal use detailed in the photos below.
All of the glass on the truck is in exceptional condition, with no cracks, lamination issues, or damage, and a light legal tint all around.
Weather stripping, felts, fuzzies, and window seals are all in excellent condition, thanks to indoor humidity controlled storage it's whole life.
Bed is clean and straight, and the wood slats are in good condition with a nice aged patina, but no chipping off on any panels.
Shaved tail gate is super sano looking, and has two inside pins to make sure it stays closed.
Bed sides and fender wells look great with only the lightest marks, and the metal slats and bolt heads could use an afternoon with the included touch up paint to take them back to show quality.
The truck rides on original Weld Racing PRO STAR show finished rims wrapped in Grand Am RADIAL SE 215/75R15 tires up front, and MONSTER Coker Pro-Trac S375 /60R15 meats in the back.
Tires all around have at least 65% of the USEABLE tread left on them, and show damage free.
Wheels are clean, show no curb damage or cracks, and are a detail away from showing almost new!
The truck chassis is a combination of the stock frame and custom crafted front end with power steering, and it is clean and professionally done.
K2 A-Arms with Gabriel Performance shocks and coils handle supension duties up front, while Speedway lift blocks, performance shocks, and heavy duty leaf springs take car of the rear.
A GM 10-Bolt rear end with POSI-TRAC and 3.73 gears is smoothed and painted for looks, and has just the right amount of off the line oomph and highway friendliness to make this truck an easy driver anywhere. Obviously, if you plan to make it a 85mph freeway flier, you will need to swap the gears, but it is pretty happy anywhere from zero to about 75mph right now.
The underside is clean and painted, and with a little detailing and touch up, could see a show mirror if you wanted it to. It is VERY presentable as it sits, and would likely embarass most local and regional show competitors.
The engine bay looks great, and you can open the hood with pride at any local show or cruise night, but if you want to hit the bigger shows, you will need to spend some time detailing it up.
Sides, firewall, battery tray and cover, front support, brake unit, center of the air cleaner, and underside of hood are all painted to match, and look great.
Engine has finned valve covers that need a little touch up, and the manifold could use some polish and elbow grease as well.
The headers are clean and a newer addition to the truck, as is the custom fabricated dual exhaust that dumps out of massive welded on tips out back. The sound is mellow and cool, but a change of muffler could turn it into a screaming demon if you wanted!
The motor itself is a GM 350ci 5.7L V8 that was reportedly from a 1970 Chevy Camaro.
What you see in the pics is what you get, and it is professionally wired, has a Mallory ignition and plug wires, and a Holley Carburetor.
It starts with a pump of the gas and turn of the key warm or cold, idles nice and lopey like it has a mild cam, and is ready to drive in moments.
Snick the TH350 automatic into gear, and the truck pulls away with ease and shifts smoothly through each gear, up or down.
Jump on the gas pedal, and the truck has plenty of power to get it moving, while the power 4-wheel disc brakes drag it down to zero with ease!
The engine will leave one tiny (1/4") diameter drop of oil under it after a 30 mile drive, but that is it. It seems like it is coming from the 3rd bolt back on the passenger side of the oil pan. Nothing from the rear end, and nothing from the transmission.
Brakes are solid and sure, and pull the truck down with no odd wander or excessive fade.
The transmission shifts smooth and sure, and shows no sign of any issues whatsover.
Inside the truck, the fully finished interior still looks as good as when the truck won the Pick Truck award at the Good Guys Southeastern Nationals in 2003!
This cab is fully carpeted from wall to wall in a deep, rich, black automotive grade carpet that is applied over layers of sound proofing material to keep noise and ambient air OUT of the cab! It is clean, damage and stain free, and needs only a good detailing to show like new! Two included floormats help keep it looking good, and show light normal wear.
Door panels are a rich and thick black leather style trim, which shows damage free and has only the correct aged patina one would expect.
Door handles, pulls, and window rollers are all in great shape, and function easily like they should.
The large bench seat with folding center armrest shows great, and is covered in the same rich looking material as the door panels.
The seats flip forward to reveal a carpeted and leather look covered fuel tank with a set of matching 3-way speakers on them.
Headiner and visors are correspondingly trimmed and show wonderfully.
The dash is clean and painted in a mix of gloss black and seafoam green.
Factory gauge cluster looks great, and the factory fuel gauge, speedometer, and odometer are functional, while the oil, water temp, and volts have all been routed to the center mounted VDO vintage white face gauges for increased accuracy.
An AM/FM/CASSETTE/CD CHANGER ready head unit sends power to the monster rear mounted 3-way speakers. It sounds great, and everything works as it should, although it took me awhile to find a cassette! Wiring is professional and clean, so switching to a modern deck should not be hard at all.
The GM tilt steering column is a clean install, and has tilt functionality, electric wiper controls on the turn signal stalk, and functional signals as well.
Dash mounted light switch works as it should, and the floor mounted high beam switch lights everything up as bright as you can get them!
The interior really is super clean, and super sano too, and it has not even been detailed yet!!!
This truck is a perfect example of a top quality show truck that is ready for a new owner to give it some legs and set it free on the highway while still collecting trophies at local and regional events!
