OVERVIEW
As with most trends, 20% of the cars built CREATED the movement, and 80% try to look the part. A cursory look under the PRO-TOURING and RESTOMOD headings on eBay shows a lot of stock cars with some disc brakes upfront and lowering springs with a set of monster wheels, air bagged rides that handle about as good as a double-decker bus, and a dozen or so $200,000 rides that cost more than most houses do these days and still only manage to look the part!
This incredible 1964 Chevy II Nova was designed, built, and created to be a dragstrip quick, long distance eating, razor shop handling, and race track savvy Street Machine that STILL could collect trophies for Best of Show wherever it went without EVER going on a trailer!

The car tachs out at 1,000rpm @ 55mph, and 1,800rpm @ 80mph.
It has run 12.98@113 in the quarter mile on pump gas and street radial tires.
It can be driven daily, and if you don't jump on it, the car is as docile and mild mannered as new Corvette.

CONDITION REPORT
This project was started in the Fall of 2007 with the acquisition of a ridiculously clean, super straight, and rot free 1964 Chevy II that spent its whole life in the dry, desert towns of Southwest Texas.
The car was still running and driving and being used almost every day when it was selected to be the base for this project. Photos of the car show the floors, trunk, and panels to be clean as can be, with only light oxidation to be found, and NO ROT or RUST THROUGH!
The car was completely stripped from the frame, and then bead blasted down to the bare metal to make sure everything was perfect. After that, minor dents, dings, and marks that were deposited over the cars 43 years on the road were taken out, and the car was prepped for finish out.
EVERY PANEL with the exception of the hood is original and shows the stamping number for the car!!!! It is one of the most solid, REAL bodied examples of anything you can find on the road today!The hood is a steel unit that was added to give it a more aggressive appearance.
When it came time for paint, nothing but the best in show quality finish would work, so the work was farmed out the Professionals and the entire car was powdercoated to ensure a solid and seamless primer and paint bond. After that, primer was applied, and the car was carefully sanded down to an ultra straight finish before being treated to multiple layers of PPG #2084 "HUGGER ORANGE" that was deftly applied.
After color sanding, and multiple hand applied coats of clear, the finish was professionally foam buffed to a lustrous shine that looks a mile deep and reflects like a mirror!
This finish was done in 2008, and STILL shows like it was done last month! There are literally less than a handful of truly minor and miniscule surface blemishes from normal use on the car, and none even visible in photos unless I were to show them like I did in the extra-large close up detailed images provided below. If this were any other seller, they would simply say it was PERFECT and move on. Plus, keep in mind that I have NOT had the car professionally detailed prior to these photos, so imagine how amazing it is going to look when you clean it from top to bottom!!!
The finish is glossy, slick, smooth and bright, and has been hand waxed since assembled. It has spent its life in air conditioned and humidity controlled storage when not being driven around the country to car shows and autocross events.
You car buffs will already know that the side trim came off of a 1955 Chevrolet Belair, and was used to give the car a unique look that still shows factory correct.
Trunk and hood trim bands are factory original, and look fantastic while having enough patina to show that they are not new.
Chrome wiper arms, chrome door handles, chrome rocker trim, chrome fuel cap, chrome window trim, chrome rain gutter trim, and the chrome front and rear bumpers all show incredibly, and most of it was brand new when the car was restored.
The headlamp, tail lamp, grill, and marker light trim was powdercoated tan and it all shows fantastic, with just a light bit of the patina coming through on the headlamp rings.
A power antenna sits on the drivers side rear fender and functions as it should.
Glass on the car is a mix or exceptional original and NOS parts, and it all looks fantastic with no laminate issues, cracks, or chips. The windows have been treated to a maximum legal grade tint which has a few spots that have started to pull away from the edges, but it is nothing you really need to address right now as you can tell from the detailed photos.
All of the rubber trim, weatherstripping, fuzzies, and seals were brand new in 2008, and still show like new in every regard.
The car sits with a perfect stance on a set of show polished Centerline billet aluminum rims that still show almost like new, and have no curb damage, chips, cracks or any other issues.
Tires are a matched set of Yokohama AVD T4 performance radials, and are size P205/55R16 in front, and P245/50R16 out back. Tires are clean and damage free, and have about 80% of the useable tread remaining upfront, and 65% in the rear.
Tastefully applied custom made LT-1 badges adorn the sides of the front fenders, and scripted FUEL INJECTION emblems look factory correct on the hood sides.
Finally, medium white trim was applied in select areas just to provide a counterpoint to the sea of orange.
Overall, the outside of the car is in exceptional condition, and has helped the car win multiple awards for BEST FINISH, BEST EXTERIOR, and BEST OVERALL at local, Regional, and National shows across the United States.
It is truly a SHOWCAR, and SHOWS like it!
Open the doors to this beauty, and you are met with a clean, uncluttered interior that can look after its occupants on the racetrack or the freeway with equal aplomb.
A combination of rich tan leather and ultra leather covers the front and rear seats, kick panels, rear valance panels, package shelf, door panels, and the perforated headliner and visors. It all shows wonderfully, is rip and tear free, and only the drivers seat shows much in the way of any kind of patina from normal use.
The custom fabricated all aluminum center console houses the Dolphin gauges for WATER, FUEL, and VOLTS, along with the center Air Conditioner vent, a cupholder, and a covered armrest / storage area. The Sony head unit remote is velcroed in place, close to the six-speed stick shift handle with its chrome shift pattern plate. Finally, a track certified fire extinguisher is in place on the back of the console.
A GM tilt steering console from a 1996 Camaro is topped with an aluminum three-spoke soft touch steering wheel. It has functional wiper controls which override the factory switch, a functional tilt mechanism, and a working column lock system for safety.
The dash was painted in two tone sand and tan and looks fantastic in the car. It has a functional light switch, non-functional wiper switch, dash pod insert with DOLPHIN gauges for SPEEDO, OIL PRESSURE, TACH, functional factory key switch, working ashtray, billet A/C control panel, and a lined and lockable glove box.
All gauges appear to be functioning properly and working correctly, but I have not tested the calibration on each one for exact accuracy.
A SONY Xplod CDX-L510X head unit with CD / CDR / CDRW and AM /FM /DSO and changer capability sends 50Wx4 to the kick panel and rear deck mounted speakers. It sounds great, and will surely come in handy on those Hot Rod Power Tour style trips! It also has a removeable face with storage box for security.
The rearview mirror, door pulls, and window rollers are factory original and look great with only very light patina to distinguish them from new.
Carpeting is a sand color, and is professionally installed over layers of heat and sound proofing. It shows light signs of wear, but still looks fantastic thanks to the heavy duty floor mats that protect it.
Vintage Air supplied the climate system for the car, and it really keeps things cool, even in the hot Florida sun! The fan is currently only operating on high speed, and I will try to see what the problem is. If I get it functioning on all three speeds, I will update the listing.
The trunk is fully finished with banded and matching carpeting which runs everywhere except the wheel well tops.
A vintage Chevrolet cooler is set to the right and houses the battery, which has an inline fuse to the mains, and a master kill switch.
A full sized spare tire sized P205/45R16 is mounted on a matching billet rim for emergency use, and there is a full size jack, lug wrench, and flare kit included as well. This is a REAL DEAL DRIVER, and you need this stuff when your car can really go the distance.
To surmise things, the interior of the car is in incredible condition, and is show ready, functional, super comfortable, and clean.
Now, lets get to the meat of this monster and talk about the chassis, engine, and transmission!
With performance and ride comfort for on the strip, street, and track as a benchmark, the car was built to be a threat in all categories without being too over done in one particular area.
The front subframe of this car was completely and totally removed, and the entire thing replaced with a combination of HEIDT'S, ALSTON and hand crafted custom tubular A-Arms, frame/firewall bracing, racing ties, a custom fabricated rack and pinion steering unit using components from a Chevy Cruze, aluminum coilovers, and performance disc brakes, rotors, and calipers.
The 10-BOLT GM rear was fit with adjustable link bars, performance shocks, ties, and heavy duty springs and perches along with a complete set of disc brakes, performance rotors and calipers to match the front. It was then smoothed and painted for presentation.
A chrome brake booster looks great under the hood, and has a proportioning valve system, performance lines, and heavy duty fittings that work together with the 4-wheel disc system to stop the car quickly, and maintain fade free breaking power when autocrossing.
EVERY, and allow me to stress this......EVERY SINGLE NUT, BOLT, WASHER, BUSHING, and BEARING on this car was BRAND NEW when it was completed in 2008, and it still shows better than most 2012 cars on the dealers lot today!!!! I don't mean some, I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE!
Every single line, be it for fuel, brakes, cooling, or A/C was BRAND NEW in 2008 and still looks that way today!!!!
The car rides and handles so well, it is really almost like driving a new Corvette! Ride is soft enough to be comfortable on the long hauls and short trips to town, yet the anti-sway bars and frame stiffening on the car keeps it slot car like tactile in the twisties!
Power off the line is tremendous, and it hooks up straight and true as well as it cruises down the road at 95mph with 4 people luggage in it on The Power Tour!
When searching for the ultimate powertrain for a King of the Road car like this one, the builder did not have to look far.
A 1996 Chevrolet SS Camaro had been hit in the rear and was totalled by the insurance company with only 38,000 miles. The builder purchased the car and removed the LT-1 engine, Borg-Warner 6-speed, pedal assembly, engine management system, OBD-II set up, and the 10 bolt rear end with 3.73 gears and posi-trac.
The engine was completely torn down and rebuilt with all new seals, gaskets, 1.6 ratio roller rockers, a mild cam, flow booster, performance manifold, and custom cut fenderwell headers. A custom designed full flow air intake was installed to help breathing. A liberal sprinkling of chrome, polished aluminum, and billet extras was added to keep the show judges happy, and the whole thing was buttoned up for installation. It now puts out 395hp and just over 400ft lbs. of torque, according to the prior owners. Seat of the pants driving experience actually thinks it probably has more, as the car is a little monster in the power department, and comes off the line like a drag car while cruising at 1,800rpm at 80mph on the freeway!
Custom fabricated fenderwall headers run into a custom made true dual exhaust system with functional oxygen sensors that sounds fantastic, yet doesn't drive you crazy on long trips. Three thumb screws on each side release the header caps and let you run restriction free on the strip quickly and easily. It sounds absolutely wicked uncorked, and will make anyone nearby dang near wet themselves when you romp on it!
It runs ridiculously cool thanks to the custom fabricated Mattern aluminum radiator, SLP thermostat, and dual extra large SPaL electric cooling fans. You simply cannot make this car come close to overheating. This is a vehicle that has crossed the county without an overheating issue of any kind, so I am sure it will continue that track record with the next lucky owner. 180 degrees is where it sits and stays no matter what you throw at it.
The transmission was also torn down and sorted out with new gaskets and seals, fresh filter, lines, a new ZOOM performance clutch kit, and a custom fabricated driveshaft that was balanced for this specific application.
Rear end was torn apart and treated to new Richmond 3.73 gears, new seals, new splines, and was cleaned and dressed for showing off.
The car shifts exceptionally well, and snicks into each gear up or down with smooth authority.
Clutch has the perfect take up and feel, and engages each gear easily.
This machine drives like a new car in every aspect, and does absolutely nothing out of the ordinairy. Steering is straight and true, and the car tracks down the road as straight as an arrow until you tell it otherwise.
The braking system is perfectly tuned and proportioned to provide drama free scrubbing off of speed without any undue fade, modulation, or side to side pulling.
I have had the pleasure of commanding this machine for about 250 miles, and it is a true joy to drive in town, or on the highway. My wife had no trouble at all driving it, and remarked that it reminded her of her last Corvette!
It is as mild mannered as a stock SS Camaro when you want it to be, but make sure you are paying attention when you mat the gas pedal, because then it is "GAME ON" time!
12.98/113mph in the quarter on street tires is pretty impressive, and with some drag radials to help keep tire spin down off the line, low 12's are easily attainable.
The car was finished in 2008, and has just over 21,000 miles since completed. That is about 5,200 miles a year of proven long hauling and daily driving ability. It is NOT a trailer queen. It does NOT need "sorted out". It will go ANYWHERE you want to take it.
The car is 100% ready to go, and I would not hesitate to fly in and drive it home anywhere in the Continental United States or Canada! IT WILL DO THE JOB, has done it before, and the trip will make for a GREAT story to share with friends and family!
