Vehicle Detail
1980 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Designed to replace the iconic Microbus that had served duty in the VW lineup since the 1950’s, the 1980 VW Vanagon sure had big shoes to fill when it was launched in the United States. And while the Vanagon might not have become the automotive symbol of an entire generation like the Microbus, it was very successful in its own right selling in huge numbers in Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and Australia. In other parts of the world it was known as the T2, Caravelle, T25, Type2 T3 (huh?) and the Transporter. I think we should be glad we got stuck with Vanagon. What we have on the auction block this week is a nice 1980 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper. The camper you see here is showing 144k miles on the odometer and recently passed smog with no problems. The vehicle is currently registered up until March of 2013. The bus runs and drives with no problems that we have found, the previous owner did state that he felt some new rear brakes might be in order sometimes soon, but we've been cruising around town without seeing any immediate repairs needed on this great little ride. The bus has been used in urban enviorment use and does have some bumps and bruises along the way, the most noticible is a dent near the lower rocker, so while it won't win any shows based on body and paint...you won't have to worry about where you drive it and if the little ol lady at the grocery store is going to open her door into the side of your new ride. As we look at the pictures and take a peek inside you can easily see that this bus has been well taken care of and loved by the past owners of the car, this wonderful time machine is ready for an excellent adventure in the near future. While I haven't had a chance to take my family out for a weekend trip to try out all the comforts of the bus including the aftermarket cruise control everything looks to be tidy on the inside and there is plenty of room in the bus for you to customize it and make it a new part of your family.
