Powered by a 250 cid, 115 hp inline eight, mated to a three speed on the column with overdrive, this Studebaker runs, drives, and stops well. Ahead of its time, the car features an automatic choke and Studebaker’s Hill Holder, an option that prevents the car from rolling backwards while the clutch is depressed. As well, the car features Studebaker’s Climatizer heater, a clock, and a radio with roof-mounted speaker displaying the stylized Studebaker “S.” The beauty of this particular 1939 Studebaker lies in the fact that it is effectively an all-original car, ideal for display in the preservation class. Throughout the car’s design, it reflects the art deco and streamline moderne styling that was dominant in the late 1930s, with its clean, straight lines. Representing an emerging trend in automotive design, the headlights are flush mounted into the fenders. The front doors are uniquely designed such that the window may be lowered and the vent window opened, creating a seamless opening without an obstructive pillar. The rear doors are center opening. Condition: The brakes were recently redone at which time most brake lines were replaced. Operational are the lights, wipers, Hill Holder, and horn; however, the horn is finicky, not always making contact when the horn ring is pressed. The interior is all original and presents itself surprisingly well for a 73 year old, unrestored car showing only nominal signs of wear or damage. The front carpet, obviously more worn than the rear, has been removed to prevent damage, but will come with the car and can be reinstalled. All windows glide up and down effortlessly and the doors close solidly. The paint on the car is mostly original and, while maintaining a nice luster, shows evidence of its age, most notably on the left front fender. The body panels are straight and rust free; however, there is a slight dent on the hood that is not readily visible in the photos. The undercarriage shows some signs of surface rust on what is otherwise a solid car. A few rubber trim pieces are missing, but are inexpensive and readily obtainable online. Car is sold with bill of sale, as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. Shipping will be the responsibility of the winning bidder. A low reserve has been set, creating an excellent opportunity for you to purchase this well-preserved, all original 1939 Studebaker President. If you are the winning bidder and feel the car has been misrepresented you may walk away from the purchase with no questions asked. Please email for additional information. I am happy to answer any questions.
