Vehicle Detail
2000 Honda Insight, runs very well, but needs some work. The Good:Regular maintenance done since I've owned the car (early 2008)IMA battery back was replaced/rebuilt by Honda under the 10-year warranty (2010)Still runs great, averages 50mpgNo rustAll four tires are in good shapeThe Bad:The hydraulic arms no longer hold up the trunk door (need replaced or adjusted)There is body damage on the passenger side door and front panelThere are other minor scuffs and scratches on the exterior The interior carpeting is worn or stained in some places The manual transmission will eventually need to be replacedThe car runs very well, still easily gets 45-50 miles per gallon, and if it is driven efficiently can still reach 65+mpg. I have owned the car for four years. This car has been the daily driver for myself or for my wife since we've owned it. It is a great car for commuting, and while it won't win any races, it can be a lot of fun to drive. About the bad: Transmission: There is a slight grinding sound when downshifting into second gear above 20 mph. There are no problems with any other gears, and upshifting into second is also fine. In talking with other Insight owners, I found that this is a common flaw in the early Insights. It does not affect the drivability of the car, as long as you are careful about when you downshift into second gear, and I have driven it this way for several months. Recently, however, I noticed a faint tapping sound while accelerating in the low gears. My mechanic told me that there is a bearing in the transmission that is causing the sound, and because of this and the weak spot in second gear, it will need to be replaced. It currently runs and drives, but sooner or later will need work. I was quoted $1700 in parts and labor to replace it with a low-mileage used transmission. I am in college and cannot afford to fix it, so I am selling as-is. Body damage: The car was not in any accidents, but my wife scraped a concrete pillar in a parking garage, which damaged the passenger side door, and part of the front quarter-panel (see pictures). I had the side-view mirror unit completely replaced, but did not want to spend the money to repair the body damage. A junkyard quoted me $400 for a complete replacement door. There are also some other minor dings and scratches that never bothered me enough to have repaired. Thanks for looking. As stated before, THE CAR IS BEING SOLD AS-IS. Buyer is responsible for any shipping arrangements. You are welcome to come and look at the car in person before bidding, just send me a message via ebay.
