1973 Volkswagen Thing.I have owned this vehicle for one year and have done alot of work to it,it runs very good and is currently in driving condition.First the good,I have rebuilt the 34pict carb,newly rebuilt bronsol fuel pump,had all wiring checked for function and repaired what didnt work even down to the dimmer for the dash lights.installed 1/8 inch steel plate from front floorboard wall to rear under seat,front seats replaced with seats from 85 Toyota supra(much more comfortable and adjustable),replaced steering wheel with Walnut Grant and custom waln ut shifter.I sanded down any rust in the interior and rhino lined the section behind rear seats.Installed wet okole seat covers with drivers side having built in heater,installed ceramic heater under dash for heating the rest of vehicle.Installed JVC cd player,Installed custom turbine aluminum mags,installed lay flat style after market tailights,bought black out headlights and installed but fogging was a problem so reinstalled original ones but black ones included in sale.Original steering wheel,taillights and shifter handle included in sale.Thing is so much fun to drive and everyone wants to know what it is.The bad- winshield frame will need replacing as it has some rust,cv joints need replacing the boot is torn on passenger side,Could use a paintjob as the one on it is original with touchups,found small spot of bondo on left front fender that was old and cracked so I sanded it out and rebondoed it,brakeshoes need replacing just hit the warning tabs (squeal),mechanic said valve cover gaskets need replacing soon.This vehicle is just basically fun to drive around town or take camping or to vw shows it is not your vw showcar that is all original and pristine it is one to drive,use,and have fun with.Have taken it to some vw cruise in's and they all said it was a very solid example of a thing with minimal rust.
