Here is your chance to get a nice convertible cheap.This Saab is equipped very nicely and has been cared for. The bad; the top needs to be sprayed with sealant, most all European convertibles have to have the tops sprayed with sealant every 5 or 6 years. The trunk lid is rusted on the passenger side along the lip. The dash lights will go out every so often, I have narrowed it down to a bad dimmer switch, I guess the easiest thing is to take a trip to the junk yard and pick one up. The good stuff; In the last 5,000 miles, new plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor, in tank electric fuel pump, ignition switch.(Saabs all have trouble with those switches). The engine runs beautiful and smooth, no smoke, no oil burning, the tranny shifts smoothly, very light and precise touch, and the clutch is smooth, nice engagement with no slippage. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country tomorrow. At low speeds the car feels like a typical compact car, noisy rattle trap with no power, BUT get it up to speed, like over 60, 70 or faster, and it settles down, gains about a ton of weight, and tightens up, and feels more like a BMW than a Swedish compact. It might not handle like a Porshe Carrera but it ain't all that bad. It has a bunch of nice features like animmediate double sweep of the wipers when you turn on the intermittant wipers, when you use the windshield washers after it is done it waits one minute and then gives a final sweep to get that last dribble that always waits in the cracks. The heated leather seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in. The air conditioning works great and so does the heater. There is a padded head liner, so you don;t see any of the convertible struts, and it is very quiet, compared to most. Miles per gallon? combined is in the high 20's, Interstate driving gives about mid 30's, it actually gives better mileage with the top down.
