Vehicle Detail
Last week I was waiting for this Volvo to be delivered to me by a parking attendent from the fourth-floor of a hotel parking garage. When the elevator with the car arrived and the attendant drove the car to me, he said, "This is the cleanest most well-maintained thirty-year old Volvo I've ever seen." He refused a tip. True story. I bought this car about nine or ten years ago in Phoenix, Arizona, it had 90,000-miles on the odometer. After having a reasonable amount of maintenance done to the car by a reputable shop in Mesa, I flew to Phoenix to collect the car. Some of the things I recall being done were both fuel pumps changed, all drive belts and the timing belt replaced. New water pump. New Battery, and enough other stuff done that equaled the buying price of the car. Still, the 1600-mile drive was uneventful, and this car has never left me stranded for the entire time I've owned it. When it comes to maintenance, I'm diligent. I've used the same shop for several decades, and the same mechanic has worked on this car since I've owned it. I have receipts of the the work done over the years. All four tires are recent acquisitions. The timing belt and tensioner was changed twice, the last time at 160,000-miles, so it's good for another 30,000-miles. Plugs, wires, distributor components, a/c compressor, blower motor, power steering and heater hoses, ball joints, brake calipers, pads, and numerous other work has been done over the span of my ownership. I have most, if not all, receipts. The engine, transmission and running gear are excellent. No drips, no smoke, no oil usage. The photos give a good idea of the car's overall condition and reflect the care it's been given. The carpeting is as you see it, and under the mats is fine. The floor of the cargo compartment has worn upholstery - it was this way when I bought the car. The seats show no wear. The door pockets aren't broken. The original radio speakers work. All instrumentation works. All power windows and door locks work. The rear wiper works (as well as the windshield wipers). This car has never lived in a cold climate with snow and salt. The carpeting is well-faded and in places the paint is thin. The buyer will be getting a clean, good-looking and trustworthy car with many years of service left. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this Volvo anywhere on this continent. Anywhere. NOTE: Before I bought this car on eBay in 2003 I paid for a history report - they weren't free then. That report had none of the discrepancies that are listed on this one. Since I didn't own the car at the time the accident, odometer, and emission discrepancies were noted, I can't contest them. I can say that all of this is a big surprise to me, especially since I see no sign of an accident in the body and paint work. Given the performance and smoothness of the engine, automatic transmission and differential, I'm reluctant to believe that the mileage is in excess of what I listed.
