Vehicle Detail

1955 Pontiac Star ChiefFour Door SedanOdometer Shows 50,943 Miles287 OHV V-8 EngineThree Speed HydramaticDry, Rust Free Car The car starts easily, runs very well, and the transmission shifts as it should. There is a vacuum leak in the power brake booster, so it takes quite a bit of pressure on the pedal to stop the car. I have ordered a rebuild kit for the brake booster which will be included with the car but not installed. I have just done a tune up with plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The engine runs smoothly with just a bit of tappet noise, so it may need valves adjusted or a couple of hydraulic lifters replaced. The oil was changed and the brake fluid flushed. The antifreeze tests good and the transmission fluid is clean and red. There is some engine oil leakage from the rear main seal, and some transmission fluid leaking from the pan gasket. There are cracks in the right front and left rear window glass (both flat glass,) but the rest of the glass is very good. The tires are cracked from age and need to be replaced. There is no spare tire. The car is remarkably free of rust, with no holes anywhere, just light surface rust on the undercarriage and at a couple of small scrapes. The original color of this car is Sequoia Green, and I believe it has been repainted once in something close to the original color, but the paint is now completely faded and the reddish primer is showing through on the upper surfaces of the car. The interior appears to be all original, and while some upholstery work will be needed on the front side of the front seat, and the top of the rear seat, the other surfaces are in good condition. The only emblems that are missing are the rear Pontiac emblem and two of the side stars. All of the gauges work, but the speedometer reads about 20 mph high, and the cable is noisy. The vacuum wipers are not working, and one wiper arm is missing. The steering wheel is cracked but solid and the top half of the horn ring is broken off but present. The horn is disconnected because the horn contacts in the wheel are stuck closed. All of the lights work except one of the back up lights which will need a new socket. The original radio is present and makes some static noise, but no stations come in because the antenna is broken off near the base. The lighter is also missing. The top of the dash is either vinyl or leather, and has many small cracks but is intact and not bad looking. There is no documentation on the mileage but I believe it to be near the actual mileage because of the lack of wear on the pedals and hinges and the general mechanical condition and originality of the car. The major wear on the paint and upholstery is from sun damage, but other parts that have not been in the sun are in very good shape.
