Vehicle Detail
1951 Buick Super body with removable carson top. Carson top created by Dick Dean for Rick Dore. Mr Dean made 2 of them, the other one is on Breathless, the Oakland Roadster Show winning Buick built by Rick Dore, here is a link with info on that car- kustomrama.com Click Me 4" chop, in my opinion the perfect amount. Leaded headlights and taillights, headlights extended one inch and then Frenched, Taillights 49 Ford Cat eyes, vertical. Completely shaved, except for the Buick Portholes. This bodywork was done by one of the greats. Paint is hardened DP 90 and a white with heavy orange metal flake in the clear over the white. It really pops in the sun. The old paint job, with the flames got messed up when the car was hit by Larry King in Los Angeles. Yes, that Larry King. Suspenders, glasses, twitchy... He backed his Town Car into the passenger side fender. The old timer that painted the flames originally had passed on, so instead of trying to copy them, and match one side to the other, we went for the Killer Whale theme. Pinstriping on hood and trunk done by Willy Fisher, Daddy-o Designs. 72 Buick Lesabre chassis. Channeled 4 inches around frame rails. Allows for full suspension and clearance with a lowered look. Gas tank raised into trunk with a raised trunk pan. 3900 pounds, wet. Power steering, power disk brakes, Drives like a full size Buick from the 70's, but faster... and with air suspension. Posi 2:75 rear end. Also comes with the original 3:70 gear set. By changing to this Cadillac rear I was able to reduce RPMs from approx 4000 to 3100 on the highway, and increase mileage from 10 mpg to about 15 mpg. Stage 2 heads aluminum heads on rebuilt engine, after driving from New York City to Paso Robles in '05, and burning about a quart of oil for each tank of gas I decided to spend the money and get a great motor. The block is the 72 Buick Big Blog 455, the best year because of the oiling.Massive 3 core radiator and 7 blade Chevy Truck fan, never overheats. Mild Cam, Electronic Ignition, 750 Edelbrock AFB carb, MSD ignition (hidden under battery), 200 Amp Cadillac Alternator customised by Socal in Glendale, for running the Air Pumps,Comp headers and FlowMaster mufflers, and Stage 2 Aluminum Heads. Its never been on a Dyno, but smarter people than me have all ballparked the Horsepower at 450-500. Approx 30K on the motor. Turbo 400 Trans with shift kit and hardened gears, also built in '05 and has low miles. Works great. 1/2 inch line and valve custom air suspension; 2- 450 Electric Pumps, Slam Specialties Bags, 2- 5 gallon tanks, 200 pounds of pressure. The front wheels will come off the ground on the first hit with the tanks topped up. This system was installed in '05 by some friends in LA that specialize in systems like this. It is fast and reliable. Ive never had a problem with a Bag, but I did have a line rub through because I moved it without thinking, my own damn fault. But I was able to drive to the next town (King City) with a front Bag empty, and then make a patch fitting and be back on the road to Paso. It was about a 45 minute delay. 64 Tbird interior, custom upholstery. The 64 T-Bird dash is cut down 3 inches to fit in the Buick. The Low Back seats are a little rough. If I found some with frames in good shape Id probably replace them. The Thunderbird backseat looks good, but isnt terribly comfortable. Upholstery done by Jesus on Meserole- Brooklyn. The bottom line is this is an awesome car that you can jump in and drive from California to New York City without any concerns. Ive already done it 5 or 6 times. Over the last few years Ive been so busy with work and bikes that I havent had time to finish the car, and barely enough to maintain it. I need to pass it on to someone that will drive it and wrench on it and enjoy it for what it is. Issues- Windshield has cracks, I run no wipers, Rain-x works for me, but you might want to install wipers, Ive got some electric boat motors you can have. I cut down the original wing windows and you can slide them in so that you can roll up the windows in case of rain, or parking in a bad neighborhood. But they look pretty hokey. I would suggest having one piece electric windows installed on the doors. I only have the Tach, Temp and Electric guages hooked up. The rest of the guages are there, and can be hooked up, its just a matter of taking the time to do it.
