Vehicle Detail

Rare 1967 highroof slider panel running project Price: $20,000 shipped with the "BUY IT NOW" option Rarest of Rare 1967 Highroof Slider Free shipping This is an extremely rare bus. Often the term rare is used in describing old vws and often it is not warranted. This bus is the only one of its kind in the world......well at least known to exist. I collected early vw buses for years, mostly I was after original paint logo pre 1959 versions. When I found this it got a free pass and stayed in my storage facility to wait a proper restoration. We have a birth certificate from vw verifying the rare options. This bus has some great rare features that put it in a class all its own. A sliding door, rear window omitted and delivered in primer are rare options standing by themselves. The highroof option is just amazingly rare and functional. It also has a very rare brake reservoir setup mounted in the cab. I have never seen a bus with this feature,it has a spotwelded, machine pressed bracket to support it. The floor has machine punched holes for the brake lines, not drilled, there is even a factory looking grommet they come thru. Both the poly roof and the brake reservoir mounting in the cab happened in the new 1968 buses. The roof is very similiar to the highroof vw used in 1968-79 hinting that vw may have been test marketing these additions in buses like this one. Something of interest is the fact that we were asked by a well known die cast company to provide detailed pictures so a miniature diecast of this very rare bus could be made. It is an honor to have a bus like this modeled into a diecast. The brake system is the original and it still works well. The engine is a nice running 1300,it starts right up and has good power. The wheels are correct 14 inch and very nice recent tires are mounted. When the bus was built at the factory it was delivered then to Belgium. We found it in the oregon desert, how it ended up here is a mystery as of now. Whats more amazing is that it has stayed untampered with all these years. Buses of the 60s and 70s led hard lives and were often cut into in the name of individuality. This bus has never been hacked into and it has all its original doors. The engine bay is still primer grey,so is the top of the steel roof sections. This was the way coachbuilders like westphalia and binz would paint a grey primer special order bus. Very few factory primered buses exist in the world. All the doors open and close properly. The sliding door works great, opens and closes very smooth with very little effort. 1967 was a big year for vw,many one year only items and some great improvements. This bus has all of its 1967 only parts still intact, from the correctly dated euro s peedometer to the very rare sliding door handles and mechanisms. 1967 to many collectors is the ultimate vw production year because of its upgrades but early body style. This bus is unrestored and has the typical lower 3-6 inch corrosion that all 60s vws have. These are easy to replace and are readily available by several vendors. I am including a nice rear cargo floor section with the correct 67 pressings to fix most everything in the rear. These floor sections also have nice 67 jackpoints in nice dry condition. When looking at the pics its easy to see where the modern day sprinter van got its inspiration. This bus could have a very neat life either in a private collection or retro consession stand. From a vintage preservation standpoint one might consider stripping the respray to reveal the logos we all know are under the green. The bus has never been in any kind of serious wreck. There are no replaced panels or excessive plastic filler anywhere, its a very genuine bus. The european market buses took these symmetrical headlights, tri bulb tailights and bumpers with no overriders. The european market buses have a cleaner look than the american market buses. These correct original seats were recovered with correct seat covers and the cocofiber seat pads. Anything but the original cocofiber will not sit, smell or look correct. The drivers seat floats and adjusts just like new. There are also fresh seat pedastal rubber mats installed. A clean old issue oregon title is still intact which is really nice to have. We can ship worldwide and have shipped many cars all over the globe with only positive transactions. Please feel free to ask any questions either through ebay or by phone at 503 819 8233.
