Vehicle Detail
This is a 1964 Ford Econoline panel van that is very straight and solid. It has the factory 4 speed, 170 ci inline 6 motor and a 2.75 9" rear end. It has very little rust even in the 'usual places' that all of these generation 1 econolines have it. I got it along with another econoline and was told that the motor and transmission had been recently rebuilt and the 9" differential had been changed out to a 2.75 ration unit for improved gas mileage and better highway cruising. When I got it the clutch was fried but there was a new pressure plate and disc stashed in the back. A couple of weeks ago I dropped the trans and replaced the clutch. The flywheel was in good shape as were the ujoints. I replaced the trans mount, cleaned up and painted the trans and now it works great. I've included a picture of the rear of the block and it is clear that it has been recently worked on but beyond that I don't know anything about the rebuild. It's got a new starter. It starts easily and revs fine with no odd sounds. I've just driven it around the neighborhood a few times and it runs and drives fine. The brakes work well but they should be gone through. The shifter needs new bushings and the rods should be greased and adjusted. Everything is available at Mac's Antique Auto Parts and parts are really cheap. I changed the motor oil and filter but the plugs, wires, points, belt and hoses all need to be replaced. The tires and battery look like they were recently replaced. The ebrake works fine. The glass is all good. The underside is practically rust free but the frame was patched in the front right just behind the front leaf attachment point. It looks like the lower right front corner got smacked and that little piece of frame got bent. It looks like an older patch and seems to be holding up fine. There are some parts missing- the floor heater, the sway bar and the jack. The steering wheel is broken as is the turn signal switch. Most people swap out the gen 1 wheel for a much more robust gen 2 wheel with just a small amount of modification. The right side motor mount arm is a little rusty and should be replaced. I found a good used one locally for $35. I'm letting this auction run for 10 days and there is no reserve. The best thing would be to come and either check it out in person or send someone out to do it for you. thanks BobOn Aug-04-12 at 09:21:30 PDT, seller added the following information: I'd like to post some answers to the many questions I've got. Many people have asked me if I can tell them if the van can be driven safely cross country in it's present condition. There is no sway bar, no turn signals, brakes work but have been sitting 20 years, the motor has old soft hoses, old plug wires, cap, points, really everything. I live in a dense part of Los Angeles and with tons of traffic. The spare tire is flat. There is no jack or lug wrench. It's not insured. It have a clean CA title in my name but the registration expired 6 weeks ago (I'll pay the penalty due of $45). Please expect to have to trailer this van home. As you can see from the ad this is a 3 window van, so the rear doors are solid so you have to use the mirrors so see what's going on behind you. This is irritating to some drivers but I see posts on the econoline sites all the time of people wanting to trade doors with windows for those without so I guess some people prefer no windows. Also, I'm around this weekend if anyone wants to come by and see it in person, if you want any additional pictures send me your email address and I'll see what I can do. thanks Bob
