Vehicle Detail

1973 Plymouth Road Runner I travelled long and far out of the city past the suburbs and into the wine country. A man was finally parting with his classic Mopar. I raced out passed the 'burbs in my fastest car. I had no time to waste because many people were chasing down this hot machine. We had made a hand shake over the phone deal. I had promised from the pictures that I would buy the car. Indeed it was just as I had hoped. A beautiful Road Runner sat in the driveway as it has for many moons. A big, strong fella in his 70s mossied on down to meet me. He was the kind of guy with worn hands and suspenders over a well worn shirt. The kind of guy that could fix anything and rarely hired anyone to do a job he could do himself. Indeed this was his dad's car. The man had built the motor himself with the finest parts money could buy. I envisioned him in the garage, cranking the bolts down to their breaking point. He said he fixed everything on the car that there was to fix then one day just stopped driving it. He let out a heavy sigh and said, "Shoot, it's still got a full tank of gas." Cash was exchanged. Paperwork was signed. And the mighty Mopar changed hands. On the tow home there was some rough road and our usually reliable tow guy popped a leak in the gas tank. Bad gas leaked out for 2 days. Funny thing is my partner Chatman looked under the car as the last drop dripped out. I told the folks that I would drain the gas, but little did I know this would be how. Later that day we patched the leak, popped in 5 gallons of premium fuel, and the might bird roared to a start. The engine and trans had been rebuilt and now have 25K miles. The exhaust was new. The brakes were new. Now, she's going to need some refreshing. The radiator has a little dripping and the gas tank should be replaced. The paint is original and has worn through in spots. This is not a rusty car. This is a great car. My Mopar friend was concerned that these cars don't have a big following. My feeling is that anything with the awesome Chrysler 340 is going to be a hot commodity and a highly sought after item. Also, I've been alerted that Daisy Duke drove one of these on the Duke's of Hazzard show. Need I say more?
