Vehicle Detail

Here is your opportunity to bid on and own a very rare restored 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7-G. This car is an original documented Hollywood, CA black plate car. Do not confuse this car with the run of the mill Dan Gurney Specials that were sold by the 10's of thousands. These cars were hand modified by A.O. Smith right beside the Shelby Mustangs. It is 1 of 140 XR7-G's built with the 302-4v and Automatic Transmission out of a TOTAL ONE-YEAR PRODUCTION of ONLY 619 cars. These cars much rarer than the 1968 Shelby Mustangs. This car has been verified by Kevin Marti and is also listed in the XR7-G registry. The original owners manual also comes with the sale of car. These cars are little known by those outside of the Cougar community, even many Cougar enthusiasts have not heard of these cars. If you want to stand out in a crowd of Mustangs and most Cougars then an XR7-G is for you. For additonal detailed info regarding these rare cars Click Here to go to a website totally devoted to the XR7-G's. This website was put together by Royce Peterson, the one that maintains the XR7-G registry. All you have to do is type XR7-G in any search engine such as Google and you will find multiple resources documenting how rare and desirable these car are. This car has just come out of a 10+ year hibernation and has been totally gone through to make it reliable and safe. This car was restored with the goal of making it a very nice driver. It is not a 100 point show car but it is nice, runs smooth, and will turn heads everywhere. It has just been repainted in its original beautiful color (Lime Frost) and has a super nice restored Dark Ivy Gold interior. Most of the exterior trim on this car came off another XR7-G I own and has only 60K miles on the pieces so they are not perfect but very presentable. While the bumpers look great in the photos they do have some imperfections from being over 40 years old. The car has also pain stakingly had the pinstipes painted on by hand, just like they were done in the factory back in 1968. This car has its special "XR7-G only" components including a beautifully restored console, Bullet style exterior mirror, hood scoop, hood pins, third "delco" horn, exhaust tips, Cast Aluminum Walking Cat valve covers, XR7-G emblems, and Lucas fog lights. This car was very solid before restoration just with little rust needing attention. The area under the hood by the fenders is perfect as is the cowl. It still has the original mufflers, tail pipes, and exhaust tips that came on it back in 1968. The motor while not the original one (non-matching #'s) has been totally rebuilt with only 16 (sixteen) miles on it and sits inside a nicely detailed engine compartment. It has new tires, wheels, windshield, complete fuel and brake systems and much much more. All the gauges work, however the Am-Fm radio does not. It powers up but does not play. Options include, 302-4v, AT, PS, PB, AC (not installed but all the required parts are included), Tinted Glass , H-D Suspension & AM-FM radio. The headlights open and close as they should and the sequential signal lights work as they should as they have been upgraded with a solid state control unit to assure they will work flawlessly for years. This car has been restored from an extremely solid west coast car. At some point in its life a previous owner had installed a factory sunroof in the car which has since been closed up permanently due to the lack of components to make it work. This car was originally sold without a sunroof so closing it up is not a detraction from it aside from having to install a custom panel covering up the opening in the brand new headliner. You can see it in one of the photos. The front seats have been recovered with leather while the rear one are the reproduction vinyl ones with a few minor flaws. This car can be inspected in person most anytime by appointment. If needed I will pick you up at the airport for your inspection. Should you have any questions please ask before you bid. Should you like to see additional photos you can check out the link below: http://scottsgaragesale.weebly.com/1968-xr7-g-302-4v-j-code.html Prior to bidding on this car please make sure you have at least 5 positive feedbacks in your profile otherwise I will cancel your bid unless you call me first at (860) 608-1885. Please call between 9am-8pm EST. This requirement also goes for those that have any negative feedbacks in the last year. I take my auctions seriously and ask you to do so as well. Please only bid if you want to own this piece of history and have adequate funds to pay for the car. So make sure your wife, girlfriend, mother, father, significant other is ok with you bidding and owning this car. There is a non-refundable deposit of $500 due within 24 hours of the auctions close.
