Vehicle Detail

This is an extremely clean and extremely rare 1984 Volvo 244 (240) Diesel sedan. Engine was fully rebuilt about 1500 miles ago at 124,866 miles. It has about 128K ORIGINAL miles, and counting, as it is still being driven daily. The ONLY reason it is up for sale is due to my job. I need a small SUV or 4wd that can also tow, and would like to sell this to have a down payment on something. This car has the factory D24 inline 6 cylinder engine made by VW/Audi. It has a smooth shifting BW55 3 speed automatic transmission. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner~8000 miles ago due to stuck rings/low compression due to incorrect engine oil being used, however, the rebuild was not done very well, and the clips holding the wrist pin to #2 piston were left off, thus resulting in scoring of the #2 cylinder wall, so, after a catastrophic failure at 124,866 miles (glow plug system failed, melting 4 of the 6 glow plugs, damaging the pistons, head, and overheating the engine), at which time the scoring in #2 cylinder was evident upon disassembly, I decided to spare no expense, and PROPERLY completely rebuild the engine... which included the following: (6) brand new Mahle pistons .040"/1.00mm oversize Block completely disassembled. I had it tanked/cleaned, bored, and honed by Palmer Engines in Williamsport, PA. I installed new rod and main bearings made by Glyco, which are OE Cylinder head rebuilt with new guides, Viton valve stem seals, and ground valves and valve seats All new gaskets, including the updated MLS (multi layer steel) 1-notch head gasket New front and rear ContiTech timing belts, camshaft timing belt roller (OE Volvo), and new Conti accessory belts New water pump 6 brand new Bosch glow plugs New radiator and heater hoses New cold start thermostat/wax valve from Volvo New glow plug relays (both the main relay and the timer relay... OE Volvo parts New OE Volvo motor mounts and transmission mount New Volvo kickdown cable from Germany Resealed the transmission and serviced it with the correct Type F fluid Brand new engine wire harness from Volvo New fuel filter and air filter It runs like a top, and starts with no trouble at all. For an automatic, it has plenty of pep and power. Though not the fastest car in the world, it will safely merge onto a highway, or up a mountain with no problem at all, and will cruise at 70mph just fine. I have owned, serviced, and repaired MANY of these D24 engines, and currently own quite a few Volvo's. These D24 engines need synthetic oil, not dino 15w40, as that does not work well in these engines. A Google search researching this engine will explain all of this. Just serviced with Mobil 1 0w40 and has a fresh fuel filter and air filter. I will include some extra air and oil filters as well. At 120K I completely rebuilt the fuel injection pump using genuine Bosch Viton seals, so it is biodiesel safe, and rebuilt all 6 fuel injectors, again with Bosch parts (nozzles). The master cylinder was just replaced with a new Ate (OE to Volvo) unit, and the brake fluid was power flushed with the correct DOT 4 fluid. Car has power windows, locks, and a sunroof as it is the "GL" package. It also has WORKING COLD AC (which I just converted to R134a), power steering, power brakes, power door locks, aftermarket cassette player with an ipod plug that I have been using with my iphone. I had 4 brand new Michelin tires installed at Sears on 11/5/2011 at about 120K. Floors and behind the wheels are as solid and rust free. The interior is extremely clean, there are no rips or tears in the seats, and it is very comfortable. The dash has the usual cracks for a 240 of this vintage. Everything in this car works. I have personally driven this car several thousand miles, including on several long trips. I was driving it 500-650 miles per week prior to the engine rebuild, and am currently still driving it, just not as much due, and due to my job and where I have to go, I need a 4wd. It is PA inspected until 11/2012. It was originally a Southern car. Original owner was from Georgia. The second owner had it shipped to MA where it was not driven long. He rebuilt the engine and drove it less than 500 miles. It never saw salt I was told, and that is evident from the body and under body. The rebuild proved to be a poor one, and therefore I had to rebuild it again, this time it was done properly. I was running biodiesel in it with fantastic results, and yes, you can switch to diesel fuel with no problems as I rebuilt the fuel system with Viton seals. I have been switching back and forth with no issues. I am currently running regular pump diesel fuel. It gets in the low 30's for MPG. Located in Westport, PA 17778. NO TRADES, Please do not ask. I am not interested in trading for anything except CASH. I will be glad to sell this nationwide or even worldwide. International bidders must handle the shipping, etc. at your own expense. Same goes for US bidders. I will help in any way that I can. I could possibly help in delivering by driving the car to the buyer for a fee. Drive this car anywhere with confidence. Please note, the pictures were taken prior to the engine rebuild. I have pictures of the engine as I was rebuilding it, and a video of it starting the first time. I have not had time to upload these yet. I also have the car for sale locally. I really hate to sell it, but it does not suit my needs at the moment. Questions? Please ask. I will accept Paypal only if the paypal fees are paid, but this must be discussed and worked out prior to winning or purchasing the car. Thank you for looking!
