Vehicle Detail
Bought from a TDIclub member back in '03 with about 80K on it after a lot of searching. It had it all, but it also had a bit of rust already. It's been an occasional driver for my wife and I ever since, mostly driving up and down the PA turnpike. Back in '04 it got caught in a 12 car pileup on said turnpike. All damage was to the front sheetmetal thanks to the SUV in front of me that I got pushed into. It was appraised at $200 over the repair limit. I begged and pleaded but the insurance co. "totaled" it. I promptly bought it back from them and repaired it with used parts from other TDIclub members and some new bits. I have all before and after photos, receipts, etc. I retitled it as "reconstructed" and have been driving it without incident since then. 183K on is now. Engine has been on Delvac since I owned it and runs well. Last de-gunked around 120K. Mechanically the engine and tranny are in good shape and should go forever (my '04 Tdi is at 280K). All electrics work except vent fan only works on 4, and rear windshield washer broken. AC does NOT work since accident, should be fixable, I just did not bother. I have not replaced clutch, 95% of miles are true highway miles, 65-70 mph on the turnpike at 45+ mpg. Suspension parts and body are well rusted and pretty beat, interior is mostly intact but dirty. Some small parts like door pulls and antenna are broken, missing one hubcap. Good Michelins, new rear brake pads. Engine timing belt was just replaced by CB Foreign Cars in Kutztown Pa. Good to drive home with no worries. At this point in it's life the best thing for this car is reincarnation. Prefect candidate to be used as a donor for a Tdi conversion into another vw. I was going to look for a Syncro Westy to put the engine in, but don't have the time for it. I would recommend freshening the engine up and putting it in a Vanagon, or anything else along with the electricals. Great for running SVO or Biodiesel too. Or keep on driving it as is, this car seems to want to go forever. The car is currently running fine and being driven occasionally. PA Inspection is current and car is Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE registered and insured. Test drives/ inspections available with 3 days’ notice. Car absolutely must be picked up or shipped before Aug 3rd.
