1997 BMW 540i e39 225,000+ original miles. Car is a good shape, driven only for pleasure. Ideal buyer will have existing history with the e39 model as it is bound to become a collector's item. It has been a blessing to my family since the day we bought it. It's now time for someone else to get a taste of an ultimate driving machine for a fraction of the price... I've owned top of the line Saabs, VWs, Audis and Benzs on the autobahn in Germany since 1997. This car is unmatched. This is one of the fastest 4 door sedans in the world (0-55mph in 5 seconds). It is also to this day the BEST SEDAN ever built. Don't take my word for it, see for yourself online... or call any BMW dealer, ask to speak to any mechanic in the place... the title of the car alone will be worth $25,000.00+ if I sit on it for a decade, keep the serial #'s and scrap the metal, but who wants that??? This isn't business, it's the bimmer!!!!!!!! Ignition was serviced in August, infamous key spinning woe was diagnosed and resolved free. Thanks BMW! As far as I know everything works on the car, Cruise Control, Radio/CD, Etc. I take the car on joy rides during the week and Sundays to church. This car is ridiculous: Previous road jewels I compare this car to: 3 Saab 900 Turbo (1986, 1995 and 1998), Mercedes Benz C280, Audi TT and Mercebes Benz c180. None of these even come close to the performance and feel of the 540i. The Bad: Engine burns oil, needs 1 quart of synthetic per month. It's likely a valve seal in cyl. #1, either deal with burning oil or fix the problem and get a complete engine overhaul and valve job for ~$400. Drive shaft might need a new U-joint for daily stop'n go type driving. The radio/6x CD player works GREAT but the radio's face needs replacing. Found on eBay for ~$50. Trunk closes but does not latch/lock. Windows regulators are needed (motors work but the glass won't move, needs regulators x 3 for ~$35 on eBay). One of the fog lights is burns out, needs replacing. Car could use 2 new tires in back. A/C stopped blowing cold, blower motor works but does not blow cold. Sunroof works fine... ;)
