Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this '38 Packard, 4 door sedan. It is all original. It has the straight 8 flathead engine with a 3 spd on the floor transmission. I've been driving this car around and am amazed at the smoothness of the engine and how smooth it rides. Amazing for a 1938. Probably one of the reasons Packard motor cars were the top of the line during this period. The car starts right up with little to no smoking. Engine idles smoothly, revs up and responds nicely to the gas pedal. It shifts very smoothly & is synchronized in 2nd gear, which is nice for downshifting. The brakes will need a little attention as the right front is a little grabby. The body of the car is 100% solid with 'zero' rust through anywhere! I pulled back a piece of the carpet to expose floorpan and it looks almost new! Pulled everything out of the trunk to show trunk pan condition(see pics). This whole area is solid as can be! The paint is chipping, but metal is all 100% solid! Doors close and line up nicely wih no sagging. The glass is all good, with the exception of the rear window wings. They both have separation, but are not cracked, just fogged along the bottom edges. All windows roll up and down. The dash is in nice shape, as are the gauges. The speedo works, along with the headlights, taillights, and dash lights. The only things missing are the horn button and the trunk handle. The tires are near new wide white walls. It comes with 2 almost new spare tires and a big box of miscellaneous parts. The grill is in perfect shape. This is a majestic looking car. It rides like a dream! The car does have a heater. The interior is all intact and pretty decent. It may be original. So in review, this is a good starting & smooth running car that stops good. You won't find a more solid body, however, needs paint. You could drive as is or restore to your liking with very easy restoration! The speedo shows 51,500 miles and you can tell by driving and examining it. Buy it now and reserve are very low for a car of this stature! Big money cars back in the day. The type I would imagine a doctor or lawyer to own. Check out my feedback and bid with confidence! Please ask questions early and often. I love to talk 'old cars'. This car can be driven the day it is delivered.
