Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1974 Volkswagen Westfalia Certified Motor Home Camper Van...I am the third owner. Please read carefully and and please feel free to message me any questions that you might have for this vehicle, please inquire only if you are a serious buyer of this vehicle. I will try to paint as accurate picture of this vehicle that I possibly can. So here goes, this Volkswagen Westfalia was purchased new in Canada, from the evidence in the owners manual the first owner kept up meticulously with the maintenance, every single place for a maintenance stamp is filled beginning in 1974 all the way through the 100,000 mile maintenance in 1988. The original owners manual comes with this van as well as the first owners information on the owners "plastic card". All of the very hard to find items were kept with this vehicle over the past 38 years and 3 months. The original spare, the VHTF Coleman/VW air compressor, the yellow bucket in the center stool, the kids front cot, the snap in front windshield curtain...all there. This van also comes with a OEM VW van service manual as well as a box of new cables, lenses and other assorted small items. This van is pretty much untouched on the interior, mechanically the van appears only to have been maintained with the exception of an electronic fuel pump that was installed by the gas tank, which was installed by a u-shape cut in the metal under the back bed, this could use some modification to help with fumes but wouldn't be a MAJOR project. Over the past 38+ years this van developed rust in the common areas (under the battery tray, etc.) but the second owner instead of just covering them in body filler, he took the time to remove the affected areas and replaced them with patch panels which are documented in the photos. He only roughed them in and primed them, the good thing about that is that there is no surprises or anything "covered up". All the floors are good and not rusted out, they are solid. This van IS NOT a rust bucket, all of the metal around the windows are solid. I have owned the van for two years and have loved it but have been much more busy than I would like and have not had the time to devote to it, so its time to move on and let someone else take it from here. In the two years I have owned it, it has started every time. I have no documentation that the motor has ever been rebuilt and the clutch seems as if it is going to need to be serviced as it will slip some in the 3rd and 4th gears. Bottom line is that this van is a true survivor, its all there and is ready for someone to take it to the next level. Paint is good in some spots and dull in others, it appears to have had some panels painted over the years. The stove lights and runs well, I have never filled the water tank and have never tried to start the fridge (which has its original tiny ice trays). Front seats are squishy and in need of padding but there are no major rips in the original cloth, the couch, bed and top bunk are in great shape. Carpets are usable and not thrashed, wood headliner is sagging and needs some maintenance and it needs new clips for the sun visors. The antenna is not attatched and the 8-track radio has never worked for me. Van has all of its original curtains and I believe all of its little loop draw-togethers. My experience with this van has been very good but I have not taken it on any journeys longer than 60 miles. I tried offering this van earlier this year and was inundated with people asking me if they bought could they come from California, New York even Canada and drive it back and the answer is you can do whatever you are adventurous enough to do, but I would not under any circumstances take any 38 year old vehicle that has not a full freshening up, so my advice to anyone is that unless you have them means to have it shipped or trailered from central Oklahoma, this one isn't for you. I've had it parked in my driveway the majority of the time I've owned it with only a couple of drops of oil on concrete. As far as the shipping is concerned I had this van hauled from Salt Lake City to North Oklahoma City for $650.00...I have taken quite a few pics to help you get the most accurate idea of the condition of this van, it will get to you with a clear title and current Oklahoma tags. If you want to come and see it in person, I can arrange for you to inspect it for yourself. Thank you for taking the time to view this ad, please ask all questions prior to this listing expiring, winning this auction does not constitute a negotiation where you then come and figure out if you want it, winning this auction constitutes you providing the exact amount that is owed and I provide you with this vehicle, SALE IS FINAL... If this auction does not conclude with a winning bidder, I will consider all offers, you can email your offers to relevantgathering@gmail.com OK last day of auction: I really want to sell this item, so I have dropped the price by 400 dollars, that would cover the majority of shipping....
