Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1992 Chevy Geo Metro, 3cyl, 5 speed, hatchback. 2056650 miles on the odometer. Clean title. Starts and runs. I originally purchased this car (cheap) as a summer project -- however, the more I got into it the more I discovered I wouldn't have the time to make it good by fall. The big thing is that the engine does not pass State of Colorado emissions limits for hydrocarbons. On the EnviroTest dyno, it scored a 2.3 GPM rating (1.5 is the top limit in Colorado). High HC readings are probably a result of unburned/partially-burned fuel in the exhaust. The emissions guide lists the possible causes as: a) defective points b) open plug wire or fouled spark plugs c) vacuum leak d) incorrect mixture e) inoperative air pump f) wrong timing The winner of this auction will have to deal with it, either by fixing the emissions system or by taking the car to a non-emissions state. Other things to note: 1) There was some surface rust on the hood, over the windshield, on the driver's door, and on the hatchback pillar. Most of it has been treated, sanded, painted, and/or covered with Bondo. The Bondo hasn't been sanded down yet, though. 2) Downshifting into 2nd gear is difficult, and takes some strength. Upshifting into 2nd is fine, though, as are all the other gears. 3) The EnviroTest folks complained about the alignment while it was on the dyno. It drives reasonably straight on the road, though. 4) No radio or speakers are installed. Some of the radio wiring is chopped up and/or capped with wire nuts. 5) Dash fan switch isn't connected, and was bypassed by a previous owner with a toggle switch. The facade around the heat/vent switches is also cracked and broken. 6) I replaced the signal light/headlight switch -- the old one wouldn't shut off the headlights and was glued into position. A previous owner decided to bypass that problem with a master battery switch under the hood. It isn't much of a car, but except for the emissions thing I would probably keep it. Buy it to fix up, register out of state, or salvage -- your choice. I'm not offering any kind of warranty or guarantee on this car. I won't deliver the car -- you'll need to drive it away or make your own arrangements for pick-up. I expect the price to go pretty low, so I'm expecting $100 deposit by PayPal within 3 days of the auction end with the remainder due (cash or PayPal) on pick-up.
