Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is my 1980 FIAT Bertone X1/9 which I must sell because of health problems. THE CAR HISTORY: I bought it used in 1984 and it has been and still is a strong running car. There are some minor problems with the body (see photos), they are an easy fix. There are two cracks on dash (not bad, see photos). I store the car in winter. The engine runs very strong. (the design of the fiat engine makes it almost indestructible) It has 114,535 fun miles, with many more to go. I had the seats redone, they are in excellent condition. New pads and rotors. New tires. It has an older alarm that only works with the ignition key, no remote. It’s wired for fog lights (using a defogger switch), and auxiliary radiator cooling fan (bought it like that but never installed them, the switches for them are located: see photo for location, the wires are there, missing the cooling switch, which you can buy and use a used rear defogger switch from a X1/9 like the fog light switch. The back-up lights don’t work (needs a new switch at the transmission I think). I replaced the driver’s door several years ago because of rust with a new old stock door, but for some reason the lock does not lock. I know they had to do some modification to the inside door latch because the door was from a ‘70s model, (I think the problem is with the linkage). THE FACTORY: Facts about the Bertone Factory: They are one of the worlds great coach makers, designing and making cars for Lamborghini, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and others. Cars like the Toyota MR2, Pontiac Fiero, Honda CRX, and others are all copies of the original, the X1/9. THE X1/9: The X1/9 comes with a 1500cc Fuel Injected Mid Engine, 5 speed, four wheel disc brakes, and Independent suspension. It’s a great handling car. The car was built to be a safe in a collision. Bertone built it with a role cage that can take a frontal 50 MPH impact and a 80 MPH role over keeping the Cockpit intact. It has a large trunk in front, that stores the roof without loosing the trunk space, and a smaller trunk in the rear. The design is timeless and beautiful. Pure ITALIAN… Every time I drive it someone always comments on it’s beauty . PARTS AVAILABILITY: Parts are very available, new or used and inexpensive. Making the X1/9 an inexpensive Exotic. The X1/9’s are starting to go up in price and sought for.
