Vehicle Detail

This is a nice 1965 Oldsmobile Starfire 2 door hardtop. It is red with a few touch ups in its life. It is a really straight and always a Califorinia car. There are NO rust issues and nothing hidden under a repaint. Where the exhaust runs through the quarter panels is spotless as is 99 percent of the stainless and chrome plated pieces. It is optioned with tinted glass, power steering and brakes, air conditioning and console with floor shifter and tachometer. Oldsmobile made 13,024 Starfire coupes in 1965 and this is the only year they ran the exhaust out the sides of the quarter panels through the chrome trim. Pretty cool. Since these cars came with the 425 motor it is probably as fast or faster than the 442 with the 400 inch motor. Like the Pontiac Catalina 2+2 had the 421 and the GTO the 389. The 2+2 was faster. I will detail the car below.... Mechanics.. The engine is the "Ultra High Compression" 425 cubic inch motor putting out 370 (underrated) horsepower. It runs perfect and needs nothing. Tight and very powerful. No noises or leaks. The previous owner said the odometer quit about a year ago. It is showing 84,200 miles and only a few hundred more since it quit. The speedometer works fine. All new exhaust and the engine just tuned and serviced. The transmission is the Turbo 400 and does at is should. Shifts tight and perfect. No leaks, no problems. The rear end is probably a 3.08 or a 3.23 axel ratio as the car is an automatic with air conditioning. The A/C compressor is the original but needs relpacing. Brakes are perfect. Body.. Super straight with a dent in the right front fender. That's it. The only repair I see is the right quarter panel had a small issue in its life and the paint is coming off from the repair. Very slight but still very straight. There is no rust in the car at all. Around the bottom of the front and back glass is clean. The floor pans and the trunk are very good. Surface rust on the trunk floor is all. Wire brush and paint. The tar mat is cracked as seen and the floormat is gone. Interior.. Good parts and so-so. The hard parts are still nice. All four door and quarter interior panels are real nice. The rear seat needs nothing. The passenger bucket seat has a slight tear in a panel and the drivers seat bottom is bad. What needs replacing is the carpeting, rear package tray, drivers seat upholstry, and the headliner. The dashpad has a crack on the far left side. All the chrome on the dash is very nice and clean. Glass.. Every piece of glass is in great condition and a new windshield was just installed. Chrome and trim.. Wow. Really nice California chrome. All the stainless and rocker moldings need nothing. The bumpers are straight but show minimal age in the plating. The exhaust still runs through the quarters and everthing there is rust free and clean. Overall condition.. A pretty unusual car that needs some attention. It runs and drives great so it can be used daily as it is restored. It runs down the road and sounds great. It steers fine and has no issues with the suspension. It is a really nice driving car. To see and drive the car I am about 18 miles from Sacramento off highway 80 on the way to Reno.
