CONDITION REPORT
So this purchase started out kind of funny! After driving 200 plus miles to check out this awesome Jimmy, I consumated the purchase, then realized that it was TOO BIG to fit on my single car Aluma trailer! Uh oh....NOW WHAT!?!?
Well, I hitched my trailer to the back of the Jimmy, and had my Bride drive my truck behind me! Made it HOME with NO ISSUES on the 200+ mile trip home! How is that for an initial road test!
This Jimmy is everything the prior owner told me and more! It was completely restored a few years back, and spent part of its time as a show truck, and part as a reliable and daily driver used for everything from hunting excursions to pulling a small center console boat around!
The House of Kolor TRUE BLUE single stage paint still looks great on the truck, and is glossy and smooth as the 100 pictures below will show you. Yes, it does have a few stone chips, dings, and marks on it from normal use, but nothing that really detracts from the overall appearance. About the worst is a small indent from a rock at the bottom of the drivers side front fender well, but it could be fixed for a minimal investment if you wanted to. Other than that, it is pretty much just some normal marks, some of which have been touched up already with the included bottle of pre-mixed touch up paint.
Since the whole truck was disassembled for paint, all of the jambs, etc. wear the same color, and it looks factory.
The chrome bumpers on the truck look fantastic front and rear, as they were rechromed when the truck was restored.
The chrome look grille shows great, and just has wear showing in the black insert sections that could easily be touched up.
Chrome mirrors look great, but the stems could use a good cleaning to rid them of surface oxidation. Keep in mind, I have NOT detailed the truck!
A draw-tite box hitch sits under the rear of the truck, and I KNOW FOR A FACT IT WORKS JUST FINE! It has a 4-pin harness already in place, and extra large backup lights underneath as well.
Side glass is all good on the truck, as are the vent windows and fiberglass roof glass. It has the rare wind wings installed too!
Windshield has some light marks and scuffs from normal use, but no cracks or chips.
Rear window is power, and it works great up or down! Glass is great too, but the tint seems to have some marks on it.
The truck rolls on MONSTER 36" Mickey Thompson BAJA ATV tires sized 36x15.50R15LT at all four corners! The tires look like new because the prior owner just put them on about 4 months ago!!!
Wheels are Mickey Thompson polished 8-hole alloys, and they are clean and damage free all the way around!
The truck was professionally lifted when it was restored, and while I do not know much about the "lifting" process, it drives, handles, and rides better than any monster style truck I have EVER been in!
The prior owner said it had all new bushings, upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings, universal joints...the whole kit and kaboodle! After spending so much time behind the while, I don't doubt it!
Steering stabilizers, new shocks in 2010, and a new steering box less than a year ago really give it factory ride, with easy to drive characteristics that make you feel like it's a stock truck!
No odd handling traits, no weird pulling or wander, and one finger handling...even with my trailer on the back at highway speeds!!!
The prior owner said the person he got it from spent a year and a half and over $15,000 on restoring and lifting the truck, and then the next owner spent over $3,000 on the wheels and tires ALONE!!! I checked prices on the internet, and sure enough, that sounds about right!
During the restoration, the stock motor was removed after 230,000 miles of use, and was replaced with what the prior owner said is a SUMMIT RACING 350V8/290hp crate motor mated to the original and completely refurbished 700R transmission.
Our tech removed the valve covers, and said everything like the valve guides, seals, piston tops, etc. looks good and gaskets look new.
It does not smoke or blow oil, and seems pretty fail safe to me all the times I have driven it.
The motor is dressed with chrome valve covers, chrome breather, chrome K&N air cleaner, and other shiny bits throughout.
The factory Harrison A/C unit blows ICE COLD, and had a new compressor installed in 2009. I had the air running while towing with it, and it kept me cool and never came close to running hot the whole trip!
Transmission shifts smooth and sure, and never seemed overworked or searching for a gear the entire time I drove it. It jumps off the line, and seems really happy at highway speeds as well. I wouldn't be scared to drive this thing ANYWHERE!
The GM 241 transfer case was refreshed when the truck was restored, as well as the front and rear differential internals. The prior owner said he was told by the restorer that it had the 4.10 set up.
The 4wd seems to work excellent. I did not take it "mudding" or anything like that, but driving it around the field by my shop showed that it goes into each setting smoothly, and indeed does send power to all four wheels in both low and high range. Locking hubs function with ease as well.
Power steering is tight, light, and sure at all speeds, and one finger is all you need to guide it down the road.
Power brakes works fantastic, and it just had new pads installed up front, and a complete brake service less than 500 miles ago! It stops with no weird fading, pulling, or wander, and the brakes bring this monster down from speed with ease!
The chassis is SUPER CLEAN and SUPER STRAIGHT, and I just love the fact that it is bare metal, not layers of goopy undercoating that you see! That way you know that what you see is what you get!
It was totally cleaned and finished when restored a few years back, and wouldn't take much time and elbow grease to make it look even better than it does right now! Remember, I have NOT detailed this truck!
During our safety inspection, all of the bolts, fitments, etc. underneath were inspected and found to be good to go. There is no odd chassis movement, and as I said earlier, it feels like you are driving a stock Jimmy, not a modified monster!
Opening the doors reveals a great looking interior finished in medium gray cloth.
The door panels are in great shape, with no damage and just light normal wear.
Carpeting is in good condition, with light staining in a few spots that should detail out, and a bare spot or two from its 22 years of use.
The stock seats were removed and replaced with later model TAHOE seats that look fantastic, and show only the lightest wear with no seam pulls or rips.
Drivers side is 6-way power, and passenger is manually controlled.
The late model TAHOE center console looks great, and has a huge storage compartment along with a cupholder area and a flip up clipboard.
Kick panels, side panels in back, and trim panels all show great, as does the front headliner with twin visors.
Rear seat looks fantastic, and is damage free. It can be removed easily if you want more storage area.
The dome light above the driver and passenger works, but the cover has a crack in it.
The rear fiberglass top can be removed, but I have never done it on this vehicle, and the prior owner had not taken it off either.
The dash is clean and undamaged, and all of the gauges appear to be functioning and accurate, although I have not calibrated and tested each one individually for accuracy. I do know that the speedo is about 9 mph too slow according to my navigation reading via GPS. I assume that is because of the tire size.
The glove box is finicky sometimes, but does open and close.
Cruise control works as it should, as do the delay wipers and washer controls.
Tilt steering functions as it should, and is topped with a GRANT GT 3-spoke leather wrapped wheel.
The power windows work great, as does the rear power window.
The power locks work great too, and are tied into a keyless entry security system with the single loudest alarm I have ever heard!
It comes with two FOB's, but one is not working and probably needs a new battery.
The stereo is an awesome sounding system consisting of the following:

This system sounds fantastic, and you would swear it had subwoofers because the bass is so tight and deep! Everything from Rock to Rachmaninoff sounds good in it, and the CD and ipod/MP3 plug function as they should too!
Overall, this Jimmy is truly a clean and proven vehicle, and will make the next owner very happy! If you want, you can spend a bit to make it a full on show truck again, or just drive it as is and get more thumbs up than anyone else in town!
