Vehicle Detail

1958 Mercedes 219 sedan. This car was an amazing find. It has spent the last 27 years wrapped in a tarp in a heated garage. It has 108,500 original miles. All of the rubber around the doors, windows, wings, etc, is still supple and in very nice condition. The doors close like the car was new. As you can see in the pictures, the dash and original factory door panels are in excellent condition, as well as the steering wheel and instruments. The wind up clock keeps good time. Most of the chrome other than the bumpers and a couple of the door handles, are in excellent condition. The bumpers need some straightening and rechroming and a couple of the door handles have some minor pitting. I pulled the seat covers off the front seat bottoms and the rear botom to see what condition the original upholstery is in. It is original cloth, but the cloth is weak and tears easily so they would need redoing. The rubber on the door thresholds is in very good condition but the floor and tranny tunnel rubber is cracking and falling apart. This car runs excellent. It was started with the fuel line disconnected and bypassed. The gas tank and fuel lines would need to be cleaned prior to driving. The only rust through on the car are a couple of spots under the battery where the battery acid ate through. It also ate through the corner of the right heater box (cardboard), an easy fix with a fiberglass patch. Other than that, the heater boxes are in excellent condition and all of the hoses, clamps, and wiring are original and in great shape. I am selling this car for the second owner's widow. He bought the car in 1969 from the original owner, there were two Karl Baisch luggage pieces in the trunk along with the original jack, lugwrench and tool kit. This cars is 100% complete and would be a relatively easy complete restoration or just refurbishing to be a great driver. The worst areas on the car are a small dent on the right rear quarter below the tail lamp, and another on the left rear quarter, and the bumpers are a little rough. Other than that the car is very straight and rust free. This car has the Hytrack semiautomatic transmission. The widow I bought the car from informed me the car drove perfectly when it was parked 27 years ago. It was parked due to her husband's disability. I put new tires all around so it can be moved easily. The parking brake works fine. I will pick up and drop off anyone from and to the SLC International Airport who wishes to inspect the car. How many true "Barn finds" like this one are left out there!
