CONDITION REPORT
In all the years I have been doing this, my ears ALWAYS perk up when I hear about a car with a body, chassis, or both, from the Master Craftsmen at Outlaw Performance in Avonmore, PA. They are truly the best when it comes to creating glass bodies and performance chassis for the street rod industry, and I have NEVER owned an Outlaw car that wasn't just INCREDIBLE in build, construction, and finish out.
This amazing 1934 Ford is no exception, and is one of the finest examples of a long haul ready machine that will still have you building a shed to store all the "BEST OF" trophies it will win at the shows!
Started in the fall of 1999, and finished in January of 2002, this car has been on THREE Hot Rod Magazine POWER TOUR's, countless road trips, and won trophies and awards at hundreds of events in the United States. It is in absolutely incredible condition, and is about as reliable a car as you could ever hope to find on the market!
With just two careful owners in the past 10 years, the car has been lovingly cared for and maintained, and it needs ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to drive it and enjoy it RIGHT NOW!
The body on the car is the OUTLAW PERFORMANCE 1934 Ford 3-window. It is a hand-laminated, one-piece fiberglass constructed body. One of the big things that sets OUTLAW apart from the rest is that the body is completely reinforced with wood and steel. The wood consists of kiln-dried Poplar D-select. Poplar is used because the expansion rate is the most compatible to fiberglass than any other wood. Plus, they make sure that the wood never contacts the outside skin of the car, which causes transfer marks. The result is one of the straightest and truest bodies in the industry.
This body shows NO cracks, NO stress fractures, NO chips, NO cuts, and is laser straight and true.
Suicide doors on Outlaw proprietary floating hinges shut with a solid THUNK, and seal up great! Unlike cheaper builds, custom weatherstripping on the doors and trunk help to seal out air, dirt, rain, and anything else, while insuring a squeek and rattle free drive!
The trunk on the car is custom power actuated from an under dash switch, and raise or lowers in seconds!
Keyless remote entry from HotTronic's with two functional FOB's allows electronic entry in to the car, and it also has hidden manual override openers in case the battery should go dead.
ROOTLIEB was sourced for the all-steel hood and side panels, and they fit perfectly on the car,with easy opening via the inside release with dual safety locks. The car also has the optional OUTLAW Sliding Hood Caddy to make raising and lowering and displaying the engine bay a breeze!
Steve's Auto Restoration in Portland, OR was tapped for the incredible looking NORTHWEST NERF'S front bumpers made of high polished 304 investment cast Stainless steel! They look fantastic, and are just enough to qualify as bumpers to those DMV folk!
Upfront, big chrome KING BEE tri-bar headlamps light the way, with small turn signal indicators tucked up by the nerf bar mounts. In back, NOS style chrome FORD tail lamps look fantastic on the car, and have integral brake and indicator lights for a clean look.
Chrome dual exhaust tip peak out just a little under the rear apron, and sound just perfect, with a mellow rumble that won't drive you crazy on that 1,000 mile trip!
Unlike most cheaper bodies, the car also has full welting in place too!
All of the glass is in exceptional condition, and the car is equipped with two speed electric wipers as well. Currently, the car has cone caps on the wiper heads, and the blades are in the trunk. They install in seconds with an allen key for those rainy days!
Lollipop mirrors hang down from each side of the door, and are actully functional too!
Billet customized grill insert looks fantastic, and is damage free, along with the billet fuel cap out back!
The car rides on BILLET SPECIALTIES show finished wheels with logo center spinners that are all in exceptional condition with no curb damage, chips, or issues.
Tires are Michelin X-One up front, and are size P185/60R14 with over 50% of the useable tread life remaining, and Michelin X4W size P235/75R15 out back with over 75% of the useable tread life remaining. They are in very good condition, with no plugs or dry rot.
The finish on the car is absolutely stunning, and shows just as nice in the sunlight as it does under the streetlamps glow!
Finished in Chromabase Estoril Turquoise, the car really stands apart from the hundreds of black and red street rods at any event, and lends an upscale vibe to the whole car. It comes complete with a custom paint code mix chart showing the EXACT color codes and mix should you ever need touch up paint!
The paint is glossy, slick, and shows wonderfully, with less than a handful of truly minor stone chips and marks from normal use. The worst mark on the whole car is a small scuff on the seam where the passenger running board and front fender meet, and it was from the high heel shoe of a model scuffing it during a photo shoot. It is certainly NOTHING that detracts from the overall appearance of the car, and nothing really larger than 3/4" x 1/4" in size.
The car HAS NOT been professionally detailed by me, and still is ready to win a best paint award at any local or regional event! Just imagine how great it will show when you take the time to detail it from front to back!
Open the suicide doors on this car, and you are greeted with a super clean and professionally done interior that is one of the nicest cabins you'll find in a Street Rod.
Rich Tobacco leather in a custom cut layout all shows perfectly, with no tears, seam pulls, rips, or damage. Everything from the A-Pillars, headliner, kick panels, door panels, rear valance, B-Pillars, and window trim is all luxuriously trimmed and finished out professionally. The seats show normal light patina and color temperature you would expect from fine hide.
Seats are repurposed Firebird units adjustable fore and aft, recline, and thigh support. I have had a 5' 3" tall 100 pound woman drive this car and feel comfortable in it, and I have had my friend who is 6' 4" tall and 285 pounds get behind the wheel with room to spare, so I feel pretty safe in saying it will fit almost EVERYBODY!
Dash is painted to match the outside of the car, with the under dash trim panel tastefully hand pinstriped with one shot to bring the whole thing together.
Chromed billet aluminum door pull/ armrests look retro and modern at the same time, and fit the car perfectly.
Matching billet headlamp, wiper, and aux. electric fan switches reside in the under dash panel along with the ignition switch.
A billet gauge surround panel is stuffed with black on white face VDO Pro gauges for TACH, SPEEDO, WATER, OIL, VOLT, and FUEL. They are are functional and appear to be calibrated correctly, but I have not individually had each one tested or anything.
A billet oval rear view mirror looks great and is fully functional, as are the matching billet bear claw safety locks on the car.
On the lower left of the dash is the dual power window switch controls, right beside the switch for the power actuated trunk lid.
A Flaming River staineless steel show polished tilt steering column looks fantastic in the car, and is topped with a Flaming River leather wrapped polished wheel. Tilt and signal arms are matching billet aluminum as well.
Lokar was tapped for the shifter, which is a floor mount with finish boot and functions as good as it looks!
Vintage Air was the only choice for keeping this car cool as a cucumber, and the slimline unit in this car functions perfectly with the underdash air duct and two dash exits with billet surrounds. AC is an R134 unit from new, and has the billet VA STREAMLINE control panel on the dash.
Audio consists of a complete custom system that sounds fantastic, and rivals the rumble of the V8 when you are on the open road!
A Custom Autosound SECRET AUDIO head unit has AMFM/USB/MP3/Satellite radio input/CD CHANGER control (changer not included), and 4x50 watts of power.
It plays through Kenwood round speakers in the kick panels, and oval speakers in the rear.
This thing sounds great, and my Johnny Cash sounded like he was riding shotgun!
Full carpeting in exceptional shape runs wall to wall, and has a set of mini mats for protection.
Use the electronic release to open the trunk, and you are greeted by a fully finished and paneled cargo area with matching leather and carpet, and a totally cool vintage Harley Davidson shipping crate that has been repurposed into a battery box for the car!
Ron Francis wiring is professionally laid out and run throughout the car, and has a modern fuse block. It is one of the most professional jobs I have seen.
The car rides on an Outlaw chassis with boxed fame rails, Mustang II IFS Independent front suspension, Performance Disc brakes up front and drum rear, Carrera coilover springs and shocks out back, and a smoothed and painted Ford 8" rear end with 3.23 highway friendly gearing.
The chassis is solid as a rock, rides better than practically any other street rod I have ever driven, and feels just as comfy on twisty back roads as it does hurtling down the interstate at warp speed!
I CANNOT STRESS TO YOU ENOUGH HOW NICE THIS CAR DRIVES. Everyone that has taken it for a cruise comes back and waxed poetic on how it just feels like you are driving a newer modern car! From handling, braking, steering, feedback, down to the ride quality, this car just has everything in the right place!
I would go so far as to say that the first person who comes here and drives the car will be the one who buys it. IT IS THAT NICE.
No stories, no apologies. Just a great driving machine that has so many road trips under its belt it makes other cars jealous!
The underside is painted gloss and matte black, and while it is not going to sit over mirrors at a GoodGuys show, it is still clean, tidy,and solid. I'm sure if you put it on a lift, wiped it down, and scuffed the oxy off with a wire brush you could make it even nicer, but this car was not built to be a trailer Queen, it was built to be the bad boy that dates em'!
Power comes from a crate fresh (2001) GM Performance 350 V8 5.7L motor with 290hp from the factory and a mild build for ease of maintenance and reliability.
With a 100amp alternator, 600cfm Edelbrock carb and performance intake, and just enough chrome, billet, and shiny bits to make it look right at home at a car show, this engine is about as proven and reliable as you could ever ask for!
It starts right up with a turn of the key, idles cleanly, does not smoke ANY color, and is ready to drive when you are!
Power is smooth and on demand thanks to the TH350 turbo transmission with Lokar shift and custom balanced driveshaft.
The car is a blast to drive in town, and has plenty of red light racing power on demand, but it really shines at 75mph on the freeway, with the tachometer at a comfy 2,500rpm, and the miles going by one at a time!
Handling is light, quick, and precise, and with the low effort steering rack, you never miss power steering, because you can one hand this car with ease! Women have driven this car and marvelled at how easy it was to turn, so I doubt anyone would have a problem with it!
Braking is solid and precise, and the car comes down from speed quickly, without any excessive fade, pulling, or wander.
Overall, this car is the PERFECT car for someone who wants a fantastic looking, professionally built car but does not want to work on it, or deal with constant troubleshooting of little things.
The car is 100% ready to go, and I would not hesitate to fly in and drive it home anywhere in the Continental United States or Canada! IT WILL DO THE JOB, and make for a GREAT story to share with friends and family!
