Vehicle Detail

If you have questions, give me a call at 270-577-1821. Offered for auction is a VERY RARE 1960 Peugeot 403. There are no others listed and have not been in over 6 months. The last one on eBay brought $22,000.00. It was in better shape but it was the same car. They are expensive little cars whether restored or original and here is one that has not been damaged. These little cars have all but disappeared due to all the scrap metal dealers hauling anythng they can find to the scrap yard. This car has been owned by me for over 5 years and is always kept in inside storage. As you can see, the photos were taken at the storage area where I keep it. I bought the car with the intentions of restoring it but my health and very limited time has prevented it. Rather than let it sit for another 5 years, I am going to offer it to someone else to restore. I will warn you in advance that I will not sell the car for parts or salvage. The buyer MUST plan to restore it or I will not let it leave here. There is a minimal reserve on it just to keep from giving it away. I have protected it for this long and I am not going to let a rare car like this that still runs be cut up. Below, I will do all I can to describe it's condition. Before I forget, I do want to mention that this is a small car. It is hard to tell size in some of the photos but this is not a big car. That is what makes it so neat. It is tiny. It could be compared to a modern Mini Cooper with 4 doors. It is about that size. These cars got over 50 miles per gallon due to size and engine. The outside of the car is average for the year BUT... it is still 100% original. No idiot has cut or altered it over the years in any way. There are places of rust but they are in very unusual places. Both the headlight buckets are rusted but they sell replacement sections for this or they can be rebuilt. There is some rust on the top edges of the front fenders next to where the hood hinges are. The rust does NOT effect the hinges but it is just on the tops of the fenders near where the hingles are. The rockers on the driver's side has minimal rust but no rust through. There is surface rust like any unrestored 52 year old car would have but no holes. The tops of the rear fenders has rust in the same way as the front fenders and right where the trunk hinges are. Again, this does not effect the hinges, it is on the tops of the fenders, beside the hinges. The passenger side rear door has spots of surface rust but these are not holes. The passenger rocker is just like the driver's side in that there is surface rust but no holes. There is moderate rust around the opening for the bumper brackets but this is easily corrected. The bottom of the car is in remarkably good shape. There are no holes at all in the floor and nothing but normal surface rust. Not a single hole and the floor is very strong. It still has all it's original floor drain plugs in place. When under the car you can easily see that the rockers are still in good shape except for the surface rust. All frame structure parts are also in good shape. The fuel tank is aluminum and has no rust. It appears that the reason the car has rust in such unusual places is because it rusted from the under side out. These cars apparently had no inner fender wells. When they were driven in the rain, the tires threw the water toward the places that have rusted. It had a clear shot at the headlight buckets, the underside of the fenders and the trunk walls. Speaking of which, the trunk walls also have rust. The driver's side is worse than the passenger's side. The trunk sides are the worst part of the car but they can easily be replaced and are not structural parts. The trunk bottom is in good shape. The original trunk shelf is still there and in excellent shape. The car has brand new tires and all of it's original hubcaps! These have become next to impossible to find. The inside is in the same shape as the outside and needs to be restored. But it too is unaltered and still has all of it's original upholstry. The seats are tan with red tops and the door panels are the same. The driver's seat is worn through. The others are in need of recovering but are intact so you can see how they should look to put it back to original. All of the gauges are there and all work. Even the gas gauge. All of the original push/pull mechanisms are there although a couple of the small knobs are missing. This car does have a factory metal roll-back sunroof that works but is very stiff to open and close. The engine is the original 4 cylinder gas version. It does run and does not overheat or knock. Mind you it is carburated and requires the use of a manual choke and a little pumping of the peddle to get it going when cold but it does run pretty well. There is a new battery in it also. I do have the car running on an external gas tank that I keep in the engine compartment. I have not had the time or ability to check on the inside of the fuel tank so rather than risk clogging the fuel system, I just did it this way. The fuel lines are intact and the original gas tank is installed and in good external condition. Since the car remains stored, I just did not want to take a chance on there being trash in the tank from the years of being stored. This way, I can take fresh, clean gas with me whenever I need to start it. The transmission is a manual 3 speed on the column and that was the only thing that was offered on these cars. The trans shifts as it should and the clutch feels okay. The car does need some brake work. I had the master cylinder rebuilt about a year ago and everything worked fine. But the last time I was at the storage unit, there was a large pool of brake fluid that had leaked out and I don't know where it came from. I just pulled the car out of the building slowly and did not bother with the brakes. I am always asked about delivery. Yes, I will deliver and that is covered below. There will be a delivery fee and the full amount of the car and the delivery fee will have to be paid in advance before I will deliver. I sell over a million dollars a month on eBay and make car deliveries all over the country and Canada. We can discuss whatever you need to know, just give me a call. I am more than happy to answer any and all questions about the car. You can call me at 270-577-1821. A few things to keep in mind, however. I am not one of these people that sits at the computer 24 hours a day. If you need an answer quickly, give me a call. I only read e-mails late at night so it will be the next day before you get an answer that way. Please do not wait until the last couple of hours to ask a question. I may not have the time to get the information you need. And lastly, while I am a dealer, this is my personal car. I have a clean and clear Illinois title to it. I am more than happy to leave the title open so you can fix and resell the car later. There will be no taxes collected on this car. The information listed below is to cover the bases that I use on the dealership cars. Not all of the items apply to this car, like the taxes. The non-payment part does. I am not an eBay newbie. As mentioned above, I sell over a million a month on here and I take it seriously. I ask that you do the same. Thanks! Again, not all of the information below applies to this car. But I am going to post them all to save some time. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Questions and answers: Let me cover a few questions that I am sure I will get 100 times while this auction is running. Also, please check the eBay question and answer section below the photos to see if your question has already been covered. * Will you trade for my ................. (fill in the blank)? You are welcome to e-mail what you have but a few things to keep in mind. I am a dealer. I am not going to trade you even unless you are offering something that is beyond belief. We are likely well away from where you are. If you have something to offer, it will have to be seen in person and that makes it difficult. I will need detailed photos just to give it thought. I am not interested in snowmobiles, jetskis, john boats, bass boats, ex-wives (or current ones!), or ANY type of project vehicle. I will consider items such as sports cars. large boats or items that are sellable quickly. I do not have time or the ability to deal with anything that I will have to put much effort into. * Does this car have airbags and seatbelts? Yes to seatbelts and NO to airbags. There are NO safety features of any kind in place on this car, other than lap belts, and is not required to in any state. due to the age of the car. * Will this car pass emissions in my state? I have no idea. I am in Kentucky and we have no emissions testing here. I have no way to test it for any state and I have no idea what your state requires. Some states make exceptions for antiques. It is 100% up to you to check on these items for yourself. If you buy the car, you buy the car. It will be your responsibilty to make it meet whatever requirements your state has. There may be no changes that need to be made since it is an antique but keep in mind that you will not be allowed to back out of the sale should you not put any effort into finding out BEFORE you bid. Please refer to the last paragraph that covers non-payment. I don't mean to sound like a jerk here but the last time I failed to mention this I had an idiot in California complaining that their 1978 VW Beetle convertible did not have a catalytic converter on it! They were not made with converters in 1978 and there is NOTHING I can do about it. * Will you ship internationally? Yes, I will but it is your responsibility to find out the costs. I am happy to help make the arrangements and have shipped numerous cars internationally. If you use the Buy It Now, or pay extra for me to do it, I will get it to a shipping port. Please understand that a price a shipper gives you is from a port city. We are not on the ocean and the car will have to be transported to the port. That will be extra. I WILL NOT accept money orders, cashier's checks or any other check for international shipping. Payment will be made by a bank wire transfer and by no other means, except in some cases with Canada. I WILL NOT accept anything but the deposit through Paypal as their fees are too high to process large amounts through. * Will this be a good car for my teenaged son/daughter? They really like it and want me to buy it for them. This simplest answer to this is that you would be an idiot to buy a car like this for a teenaged driver. This is a classic vehicle and young people need to be only passengers in it. They DO NOT have the experience required to restore or maintain this car, and yes, that includes your child. I don't mean to sound like an ass but I am stunned at the number of adults who write or call me when I run a car like this and want to put a teenager in. Young drivers have no idea what is involved in caring for a car like this nor the amount of money needed to keep it nice. Parents should use their heads and put junior in a Honda or Toyota and leave cars like this to experienced owners and drivers. Again, DO NOT buy this car for a young person! The car is worth the effort to restore but, to be direct, your teenager is NOT capable! * Do you have any documentation on this car? Not a lot. I have owned it for 5 years and collected a fair amount of information. I will give you anything I have. Nothing has been done to the car in many years so there are not a lot of records to be had. I can get you whatever other photos you may need but I will need at least 24 hours to do this. Don't contact me in the last 12 hours and asked for new photos as I will not have time to get them. I also ask that you not ask for photos of the underside of the car. I am on crutches and cannot get under the car. Nor can I drive it to a lift. The underside looks like the underside of any other car but it is NOT rusted through. Surface rust only, like every car. I will be more than happy to send extra photos to you but you will have to send me your direct e-mail address. I cannot send photos through the eBay mail system as they will not allow it. Below covers delivery and shipping options as well as ways to contact me directly should you want to discuss anything at all. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A little about us. We are a mid-sized dealership in Western Kentucky that specializes in only sports and luxury cars and specialty trucks. We don't sell minivans and station wagons. We have indoor storage for Porsches, Corvettes, Lotus, Ferrari, ect. We sell only top of the line cars and never list one on eBay that we know has a problem. As with all things mechanical, things break down and we will always do anything within reason to assist after the sale. This does not imply that we provide a lifetime warranty on your car! All cars are sold as is unless I specifically say there is a factory warranty on them. Should you have a problem any time in the future, even 10 years from now, we will do all we can to help. We will get you parts at dealer cost, recommend trustworthy mechanics, locate used parts, ect. for as long as you own the car. Just let us know what you need. You are strongly encouraged to come and see the car in person. We will be glad to have you come in and take the car out to lunch or dinner. As long as you are a serious buyer, we'll pay for a nice meal and you can go and enjoy the car. ( This offer does not apply to teenaged buyers without a parent present. We reserve the right to verify anyone's ID and their ability to buy prior to letting them run off with a free car. Hope you can understand. I also have to mention, based on a recent incident, that the dinner offer does not apply to you and 20 relatives! I now have to limit it to you and a spouse or mate. Always has to be some idiot to ruin a good thing. ) Come play with it. Make sure the car is as we say. Make sure you fit the car and the car fits you. Take it to a mechanic and have it looked at. Do anything within reason to make sure it is the car you expect! As for delivery mentioned above. The details are simple. I will deliver the car or truck anywhere in the mainland US for a minimal fee. My fees basically cover expenses and are not high like other deliveries. I may be able to include lower Canada but you must check with me on that first. There are rules that apply to importing into Canada and all taxes and tariffs will be the buyer's responsibility. If I am delivering, I solely reserve the right to decide on how the vehicle gets to your location. I may have it shipped by professional car delivery service, I may delivery on my personal trailer or I may drive the car to you and fly back home. Driving it to you likely won't happen with a classic or antique car. I will usually trailer it or ship it. If I drive one this will, of course, add a few miles but that can't be helped. Since I am delivering for it, I have to consider distance, expense, time I have on hand, ect. Payment must be made IN FULL before the vehicle will leave our location. No exceptions will be made, not even to dealers! Fees and taxes. There will be no fees or taxes on this car. This does not apply to Canada who has their own rules to go by. Bidding and payment terms are pretty simple as well. DO NOT bid of you have no money! These auctions are expensive and I will not allow zero or low feedback bidders to bid. If you do, I will cancel the bid and block you from bidding again. Negitive feedback is the same as zero feedback as far as I'm concerned. If you are not new to eBay but have no feedback and feel you should be allowed to bid, contact me and we'll work something out. My cell is 270-577-1821. Don't wait until the last minute to do this as it will be too late. As for payment, I expect a $300.00 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours. The remaining amount should be paid within no more than 7 days. I accept any reasonable form of payment but checks must clear before the car will leave here. If you are picking it up, don't expect to show-up on Saturday or Sunday and write a check and leave with the car. Best bet for a weekend pick-up is cash or mail the check in advance so it will clear before you arrive. We will be happy to store the car indoors after payment for as long as needed, within reason, until you can come and get it. If the Buy It Now is not used, I may be willing to deliver the car for a fee but we will need to discuss that in advance. I always welcome deliveries to Florida as I can always use more vacation time! Where we are: Henderson, KY is in Western KY which is close enough to several major cities that you can fly into them. We are about 150 miles from Nashville, TN; 120 miles from Louisville, KY; 180 miles from both Indianapolis, IN and St. Louis, MO. The closest airport is a regional in Evansville, IN. We can make arrangements to pick you up free in Evansville and Louisville, KY. For any of the other airports, we can get you but we'll have to have some help on travel expenses from the buyer. You are more than welcome to call me at any time to ask any question. My cell is 270-577-1821. I can also assist in finding any decent sports or luxury car that you may desire and can get them at less than what you will find them for elsewhere. We thank you for looking and wish you the best of luck in the bidding! Please see our other auctions for more Jaguars, Porsches, ect. as time permits and the weather gets warmer. I absolutely HATE to have to add this paragraph to my auctions but due to recent events, I feel I have no choice. I have lost more than $1000.00 in eBay fees just this month due to non-paying bidders and I'm sick of it! This is not a game. I am an auto dealer and a lot of people rely on these auctions to make their living, to pay their bills and to feed their families. Not only my auctions, but lots of auctions on eBay. When I list a car, it automatically costs me $187.90. When it sells, I send it to get ready for the buyer to pick-up, By the time it's ready to go, I will have spent $300.00 on it. If the buyer does not pay, I have to spend another $187.90 to relist it. This is in addition to the money I have already spent on it. So when one sells and the buyer does not pay, I will have about $700.00 tied up in it. I am no longer going to tolerate non-payment. Understand plainly that if you win and do not pay, I will expect and demand that you will pay the full amount of the expenses that I incur in fees. Not the auto prep fees but the eBay fees. If you do not pay immediately, I WILL file suit on the matter for the full amount of the vehicle, all eBay fees, court cost and attorney's fees. I have not lost a single case in dealing with these issues. I also report to the credit bureau. Cases will be filed in Henderson County, Kentucky which will require that you travel to KY for court. Should you fail to appear, KY law (KRS 514.040) says that I will win by default. I will utilize all options to collect the amounts owed including liens on property and payroll attachments. No excuse will be tolerated. If you make a mistake, do what's right and correct it. If your mistake costs someone money, it is your moral and legal responsibility to pay to correct it. If you don't, then it is my responsibility to protect my business, my employees and my family and collect what is owed me. I fully intend to do so. I don't want to be a jerk and this will not be an issue if everyone plays be the rules and does what they are supposed to! A note to parents: You are responsible for your children's actions. Should you fail to supervise your child and he or she wins an auction, expect that you and that child will be dealt with in the above manner as well, if you don't take care of the expenses that the child causes. Do what's right and avoid all this!!On Jun-05-12 at 18:00:30 PDT, seller added the following information: I failed to metion in the original descripton that this car is made to be hand-cranked if the battery is dead. It came with a hand-crank, which is now missing, and the opening for the crank above the front bumper for the rod. These rods can be found on eBay. I have also uploaded engine photos which I forgot earlier.
