1953 MG TD ROADSTER HISTORY About 50,000 MG TD's have been produced. The first MG TDs were manufactured in late 1949, and the model was formally announced in January of 1950. There were many subtle changes to the TD, but most were unnoticeable to the untrained eye. One exception was the change from solid steel wheels to ventilated steel wheels. This change was essential because there were complaints that the brakes on the early cars were fading due to inadequate cooling. Another change was to stiffen the chassis by adding an internal steel hoop under the dashboard. This helped to prevent `scuttle shake'. The MG TD featured in this auction is a low mileage, rust free example which the previous owner (who had restored seven previous TD’s) had started the frame off restoration, but passed away due to a prolonged illness during the restoration process. The current owner as a friend to the gentlemen who passed and he himself having a long history as a collector and restorer of British cars, was asked to complete it , purchased it and pressed forward and had the car’s stalled frame off restoration completed by Bill and Carl Anderson at Early American Auto Restorations in Berryville Virginia. The leather Interior, top, full tonneau and carpets were sourced from Heritage Upholstery and Trim of Blaine Washington. The Birds Eye Maple dash is particularly spectacular! I am listing the car for a friend in Winchester, Virginia. CONDITION The MG TD featured here is truly a #1 condition car. It has been driven only 36 miles since a Total restoration. It runs and drives Great. What a Fun little car. It really has snappy performance. This car needs nothing! You would be proud to display this car at any show in the country! I personally picked this car up at the restoration shop and put 22 miles on it myself. Everything works as it should. I can see why these cars caused us Yanks to fall in love with British sportscars! You can get into the Collector car hobby with a turnkey car for reasonable money. I believe that this MG TD can be driven to any destination, although it would be better cared for to be transported in an enclosed trailer. It is freshly serviced and ready to go.
