Vehicle Detail

Quick Summary: A classic convertible, only 111,000 miles mechanically excellent. Every car has a story, and here is the story of this Infiniti M30. 3 years ago, my son's stepfather (yes, my ex's husband) gave him a 1991 Infiniti convertible. Coolest car I had seen in a long time. I wanted one! I had once rented a convertible when I was in California for a week, instead of the boring old generic c-a-r, and I just loved the feeling of driving down country roads, top down, sky above my head, wind in my hair (probably should say wind on my scalp). The epitome of freedom! I also loved the growl of the 3.0 liter overhead-cam V6 engine, not loud, but very distinctive, and the feel of power when you put it in drive, and the rear end drops down like a runner on the starting blocks for a race. They just don't make cars like this any more. Fortunately my ex's husband collects these cars, and he had an extra one just lying around, and he was changing his interest so some other collector cars and was ready to sell it. So, I bought it, and kept it as a second, fun-only car. Truth is I enjoyed it, but I hardly drove it, only putting about 1000 miles per year on it. The good news, and I knew this going in, I felt sure that I could sell it for about what I paid for it. Rumor has it that only 2,500 M30 convertibles were ever made, and at age 20, it is now officially of collector car age. If you take care of an older car, eventually its value levels off, and may even increase, if it is considered collectible. Anyway, I want a new big screen TV now more than a top-down country drive, ergo, bye-bye Infiniti. CONDITION OF THIS CARPros: Engine and transmission in great condition, Body has no rust and paint in very good condition for vehicle age. Top does not leak. New Battery and Alternator. New back convertible window. Alloy wheels. Tires ok, though older.Cons: Mechanically excellent except: needs new windshield washer motor. Needs new speakers for audio system. Automatic antenna does not retract. Some dings on bumpers and scratches on finish. Passenger rear window sometimes needs some manual help to reseat after it goes down, but all window motors work. Interior trim plastic cracked or missing in places. Leather seats need some TLC. Engine hood been replaced or repainted sometime in the past. Here is the original scoop on it:VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS Complementing the new Q45 "flagship" sedan from Nissan's luxury division was the entry-level M30 coupe, also introduced for 1990. Essentially an Americanized version of the Nissan Leopard, sold in the Japanese market, the M30 was intended as a temporary stopgap, until a brand-new model could be developed. Dimensions were close to the front-drive Nissan Maxima sedan, but the M30 had rear-wheel drive and weighed about 300 pounds more. Maxima provided the 3.0 liter overhead-cam V6 engine, rated at 162 horsepower; but it was mounted longitudinally in the M30, rather than transversely. A 4-speed automatic was the sole transmission. Antilock brakes and a driver's airbag were standard. "Sonar Suspension II," also borrowed from the Maxima, used an ultrasonic sensor mounted beneath the radiator to "read" the road surfaces and adjust shock absorber damping accordingly. A cockpit switch let the driver choose soft, medium, or firm damping mode. Like the bigger Q45, the M30 was marketed as a "one-price" model, fully equipped with only two dealer-installed options available: a cellular phone and a CD player/changer. Standard equipment included a power moonroof, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power windows and door locks, a 2-way power driver's seat, limited-slip differential, 4-speaker Nissan/Bose audio system, and antitheft alarm."
