Vehicle Detail
1947 Mercury Convertible project that I bought partially disassembled in the mid 70's. The frame had been butchered in the center X member to install an automatic and large engine. I will include it with the car. It is now sitting on a 1946 Mercury frame with the 1946 Mercury 59AB flathead, transmission, and rear end. Engine is stuck having been sitting for so long. Kerosene was poured down the carb several times in the past to try to protect it but there are no guarantees. I have partially reassembled most of the parts that I have so that it is together for the sale. It has the 1946 locking steering column and ignition (lost key). I have a clear 1946 Mercury convertible title. All the convertible parts are there except the top pump. All top latches/clamps, sunvisor hold down brackets, center bracket, new front top bow, inside windshield mouldings as well as the top of the door garnish mldgs are included. It will need a complete restoration. It is an ambitious project but is doable with a new floor pan, trunk pan, inner and outer rocker panels, lower inner and outer door patch panels, lower cowl patch panels, lower quarter patch panels and lower inside trunk panel. There are some other areas that will need rust attention. The metal inner back seat side upholstery panels are very good having been stored inside. I purchased a new white vinyl convertible top about 30 years ago that is still very soft and flexible. The tan cloth inside lining is dirty from the storage. Most of the stainless mouldings are good only needing polishing. The fender mldgs have typical dents and there are some small dents in some of the other ones. Center grills are good with no broken areas. Some of the mldgs are taped on for the pictures. All of the hood trim was stolen while in storage. All windows/frames and regulators are in the car. Pictures show all the parts included. Missing are the following: Right Narrow Upper Trunk Mldg Trunk Handle Left Upper Cowl Mldg. Front Bumper Radiator Speedometer Clock Front and Rear Seats ( I have the rear seat springs but they are rusty and probably good for patterns only) This is a project car, therfore is not driveable and will need to be trailered. I am located about 45 miles south of the Charlotte Motor Speedway at Zip 29730. If you need more pictures, send me your e-mail address and I will send what I can. I want to sell everything together as I don't have the time to part it, list items and ship them. Therefore I will not consider selling individual items at this time. On May-20-12 at 09:19:14 PDT, seller added the following information: CORRECTION: I HAVE DOUBLE CHECKED THE SERIAL NUMBERS ON THE ORIGINAL FRAME, 1946 PARTS CAR AND THE FRAME THAT THIS CONVERTIBLE BODY IS SITTING ON. THE ORIGINAL FRAME SERIAL NUMBER IS 899A-2235586 WHICH MAKES THE CAR A 1948 MERCURY CONVERTIBLE. AT THIS TIME, I DON'T HAVE THE TITLE FOR THIS CAR. I AM SURE I HAD THE TITLE FOR THIS CAR BUT I CAN'T LAY MY HANDS ON IT AT THE MOMENT. I MADE A MAJOR MOVE ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO AND SOME OF MY FILES ARE STILL IN BOXES. I CAN ISSUE A BILL OF SALE AND CONTINUE LOOKING AND THEN FILE FOR A LOST TITLE IF I CAN'T FIND IT. I WAS A STICKLER FOR GETTING TITLES ISSUED IN MY NAME WHEN I PURCHASED CARS OVER THE YEARS. I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAD ONE FOR THE PARTS CAR AND NOT ONE FOR THIS CAR. THE TITLE I WAS THINKING ABOUT WAS FOR THE 1946 MERCURY CONVERTIBLE PARTS CAR I ALSO HAVE LISTED. I DIDN'T GET A TITLE FOR THE 1946 CHASSIS THAT THE BODY IS ON BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER TITLED. SOUTH CAROLINA DIDN'T ISSUE TITLES UNTIL 1947 AND IT NEVER CHANGED HANDS BEFORE IT WAS PARKED. BODY WAS PRETTY BAD SO I DIDN'T BOTHER TRYING TO GET ONE. I CAN GIVE A BILL OF SALE FOR THIS CHASSIS.On May-21-12 at 05:26:11 PDT, seller added the following information: As you probably know, Ford parts, body parts and patch panels will fit the Mercury from the firewall back. The main difference is the extra holes needed in the trunk lid and fenders for the Mercury moldings and taillights. The front end sheet metal and trim is strictly Mercury and is where the extra wheel base length (118" where Fords are 114") is obtained. On May-23-12 at 11:46:26 PDT, seller added the following information: I sent off a request today for a lost/duplicate title. It has been about 35 years, so who knows how that will go when dealing with the DMV. So, for now, consider a Bill OF Sale with this car. Dean 803-242-8965 with questions.
