1988 BMW 528e NO RESERVE. Three owners well taken care of. Started life in Hermosa Beach, CA being sold to lady at the Vasek Polak BMW dealership. Car was purchased by current owner’s brother, a financial advisor, from the lady in Washington state. Around 2003 car went to Utah. These no salt states kept the finish of this car rust free. The current owner, a friend of mine and college professor, bought the car in 2004 from his brother and moved it to Illinois. He has put just over 30000miles on it in the last 7 years as he lives 4 blocks from campus. He has an opportunity to upgrade so he has decided to sell the car. Cars condition is in good to very good condition. Car has no rust. It does have scratches and a few dings, nothing a paintless repair shop couldn’t fix. Leather interior, some cracking on seats, not bad two small tears. New JVC cd player with remote. Air conditioning works. Cruise control works, Sun roof works. Power seats and power head rest(yes head rests) all work. Have all the factory manuals, tags, and brochures that came with the car, even the bmw cassette cleaning kit. Factory tool box looks to be only missing one or two tools. Engine runs like a dream and transmission shifts perfectly. Car has been taken to Chicago last September (a three hour trip) to the BMW golf classic and he actually got preferred parking because of the car. Look at the pictures, Car is complete, not abused. I have lots of documentation that goes with the car. The letter that releases the car from BMW lien in 1989 when the lady bought the car to most of the cars repair work from 2003 till now. All this work was done by either a Goodyear shop or Midas. Some of the repairs are as listed. 2004 Fan clutch repaired, new oil pan gasket, rear brakes, rear seals, all belts, shocks and struts car had 118xxx miles on it at this time 2006 New exhaust mufflers 2008 Front brakes Two new tires on back of car and battery in the last year. Car includes new front fog light( one is missing) two extra center caps, and two extra rims. His brother had snow tires on it for the winters in Washington, and Utah. Repairs needed. Needs two front tires, tread is good, but they are weather checked, I would change them. Last year he had a short Dash tachometer, and power windows and interior light went completely out all at once. Exhaust has hole in one of the mufflers that was not changed in 2006. Car’s carrier bearing went out in February. He took it to his neighbor’s auto shop. They changed the bearing an said the drive shaft was shot, told him not drive the car over 35 mph charged him $600 and sent him on his way. He brought it over to my garage and I found rubber from around the carrier bearing is totally gone. I found they did not put all the bolts back in the exhaust. The carrier bearing is supposed to be preloaded when it is installed, and I question whether it was put back together correctly. The drive shaft at the u-joints have less than 1/8” play. I have 1984 318i that has a little less play, but does not have this issue. I know bmw’s have tight tolerances, but I think changing the whole bearing assembly might fix it, but I am not 100% positive. I have priced a rebuilt driveshaft at $340. My friend is not a mechanic and he wants to upgrade cars, So we have decided it is best to sell the car and give the new owner the choice. If you have a drive shaft for this car let me know. Car will need to be trailer home, can drive it up on the trailer no problem. If you want to use a tow dolly, the drive shaft will need taken out. I left the exhaust off to save new owner time. My Dad is retired, and can deliver the car for dollar loaded mile within 200 miles of here on or car trailer. All in all this car is in great condition, With a little elbow grease will be a great classic BMW. NO Reserve, last bid wins the car.
