Built in the late 90's and freshened up again in 2004, this incredible Street Rod is one of the most reliable, clean, and real deal rods that has ever been offered! With just over 18,600 miles of cross country driving under its belt courtesy of Power Tours, GoodGuys and NSRA show trips, and just good old fashioned DRIVING, this car ready to go wherever you want to take it, PLUS win a trophy when you get there!
Known in Rodding circles as the BLUE BAYOU, this car is well known throughout the Southeast, on the POWER TOUR, and by the small number of real rodders that actually DRIVE to the majors!
The car is based on a custom fabricated boxed frame that was designed for the body and powertrain used, alleviating a lot of the tabs and holes other frames have for a super clean and sano look. The frame was set up to work with the front and rear suspensions PERFECTLY, and once it was complete, the entire unit was professionally powdercoated for longevity and durablility.
Up front, a Pete & Jake's 4-Bar unit was powdercoated to match, then installed along with a solid front axle, front dic brakes, proprietary shocks, and an assortment of the usual Pete & Jakes accessories to make it all work and look good.
Out back, Pete & Jake's were tapped again for a 4-bar rear with coilovers, GM style drum brakes out back, and all the goodies needed to make it look and work right.
The rear end is a Ford 9" unit that was shaved, smoothed and powedercoated to match before being packed with an open 2.78 rear final to make high speed highway cruising a breeze! The rear end was rebuilt and resealed less than 6,000 miles ago, and DOES NOT leak, weep, or anything.
A custom made and balanced driveshaft mates the rear end to the stout GM TH350 Transmission that has proven to be 100% reliable and fail safe for over 18K miles! The transmission is smooth shifting, crisp and clean, and shows no signs of leaking, weeping, or any issue whatsoever. It too, was rebuilt and resealed less than 6,000 miles ago. Gear selection is handled by a Lokar shorty shifter with a push down 8-ball topper.
The tranny gets connected to a beautifully built and presented GM 400ci V8 that has been built for the long haul, and is about as proven and reliable a motor as you will find in ANYTHING else on the market.
A simple and clean build, this former Pontiac motor was fully disassembled and rebuilt from the block up with all new internals, a mild Lunati camshaft, Edelbrock manifold with a 600cfm Edelbrock carb complete with electric choke. Headman HOOKER Headers are mated to a custom made exhaust with Flowmasters mufflers that sounds fantastic, but won't kill your ears on those 1,500 mile road trips!
An HEI distributor, Spal 16" 2100cfm fan with electric switch pod keeps things running cool, as does the Performance Series II radiator. This car RARELY gets over 190 degrees, and generally runs at about 182, even in the hot Florida sun.
The requisite billet and chrome goodies are in abundance on the motor, including Chrome valve cover with the Chevrolet logo, MARCH style pulleys, bolts, accessory mounts and more. The majority of the lines are either loomed or braided stainless to tighten things up even more. Overall, the engine shows great, and really is probably only a detail away from being even nicer.
A ROOTLIEB metal hood is affixed with EZ mounts, and looks great on the car.
The body itself is an early Wescott 1932 glass body, back when they had the exposed low profile hinges on the outside of the body. The fit and structure of the body is amazing, and it is a testament to why people spend top dollar to get a quality body like this when they do a serious build.
Steel reinforced, with a close eye paid to matching the lines and details of the original, the body shows wonderfully, and has a fit that belies the cars miles. The outside hinges have been chromed, and 1928 inside only door latches installed for a clean look. Extensive steel framework throughout the car provides a sturdy and solid base for all the other components. Trunk and doors shut smoothly and cleanly, with heavy duty hinges that are steel reinforced to prohibit sagging.
The dash is a filled 1932 style unit that is packed with black bezel, black face, and white number VDO gauges for FUEL, BATTERY, TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, TACH, SPEEDOMETER. All gauges appear to be correctly calibrated, and function as they should as of the date of this listing.
The dash also holds the Blaupunkt RPD-555 AM/FM-CD stereo with 220W of power and a detachable face plate for security. A rarity in a '32, but a must have for long cruises, the stereo sounds fantastic through the kick panel mounted speakers.
A chromed rear view mirror allows you to see everyone you just passed, while the billet side mounted lollipop mirrors look great, and work great too!
A GM tilt column was shaved, smoothed, and powdercoated to match, and has billet aluminum turn signal arms and tilt arms to match the dash mounted headlamp pull. It is topped with a fully recovered LeCarrera steering wheel that looks and feels fantastic in the car! It turns the car easily thanks to the Pete & Jake's Vega style steering box.
The entire car has been completely lined and fitted with DynaMAT for sound deadening and extra insulation. Over the matting, a fully custom made interior has been carefully made and installed with weather resistant materials and careful attention to detail. Marine grade leatherette covers the seats, door panels, and kick panels, while a custme cut and trimmed carpet runs from wall to wall on the floor of the car. The lower part of the seat lifts to reveal a hidden storage area for anything you need to keep hidden from view.
Use the hidden release to open the trunk, and you will find that is was finished out to the same level as the inside! It too was covered in DynaMAT before carpet was installed throughout, and a matching leatherette lid cover carries the interior theme over as well. A polished stainless steel 16 gallon tank sets inside the trunk, along with a show chromed vented battery box. The only issue I can see is a tiny little bit of wear in a couple spots on the trunk floor carpeting that I have detailed below. Nothing major, and an easy repair, but I just want to point it out to you.
The top is a custom fabricated unit that opens easily when you pull of its hand sewn cover. The black, all weather fabric is incredibly strong and in fantastic shape. The top opens with ease, and has just two simple latches to connect it to the windshield frame. With the roof in place, you need to limit your speeds to the 60-65mph range, but you can keep it on to block you from the sun, or rain, when cruising!
The body itself is in great condition, and can be proudly shown at any local or regional event RIGHT NOW!!! It is finished in Chevrolet Radar Blue Poly with ghost flames across the finish. While not without a handful or so stone chips, scuffs, and marks from being driven regularly, the car still presents like a show car, and the 100 extra large photos below will attest to that. If you want a 100% blemish free $75,000 hot rod, this is not it. If you don't mind a scuff or two, and would rather drive it and enjoy it while saving enough to by a Lexus in the process, than this probably your car!
Finish is still glossy, slick, and smooth, and the car really shows wonderfully in person, as well as in the photos.
The wheels are Torque Thrust style rims with spokes painted to match the car and tri-bar spinner centers. They are sized 14" up front and 15" out back. Tires are almost new BF Goodrich brand, and are P195/60-14 on the fronts, with massive P285/70-r15 units out back.
The car starts with a twist of the key, idles super smooth, and is ready to roll thanks to the electric choke.
It snicks into gear with purpose, and has so much power off the line you won't believe it! If squealing the tires is your bag, you will love this car! It tracks straight and smooth, even with your hands off the wheel, and the disc/drum brake combo pulls the car down from speed with no wander or pulling.
The car LOVES the highway, and is VERY happy at freeway speeds, since that is what is was made to do! In town, the vega box makes handling a breeze, and car owns the boulevard like nothing else!
Everything on the car works as it should, and it really needs nothing to drive and enjoy right now. The car was safety checked, and has functioning headlamps, tail lamps, high and low beam, and turn signals.
This is a super clean, VERY well built, and 100% proven street rod. If you want something to drive that you don't need to wrench on every single day, this is it! The car is ready to roll to California, and I would not hesitate to fly in and drive it home anywhere in the lower 48! It would be one heck of a trip!
