Vehicle Detail

For sale is my 1972 BMW 2002 vintage race car. As a life-long german car nut and sports car fan I thought I was finally in position to start vintage racing. I looked and shopped around for awhile before buying this car. I learned the rule that it is better to buy a good race car that has had the required and essential modifications done already and then build to suit individual tastes, rather than start from scratch. The new owner of this car obviously will have that mentality, as well as starting from scratch requires a greater financial obligation. I am an ex motorcycle racer but have never raced cars, and this was going to be my time to switch from two to four wheels. The reality is that my professional life (physician) and personal life simply just will not allow me enough time to do this at present. And six weeks ago my wife and I welcomed a “late life” baby to our household. Needless to say, I am super busy and this fine car is not being used. Initially I must inform that it doesn’t have a title or registration. I bought it on bill of sale only and fully knowing that I would only ever use it on the track. Having said that, I am sure some will ask if it could be put back on the road. The answer is yes it could be put on the road once a title was obtained. It is old enough that several of the firms that specialize in lost titles can help obtain one. The dashboard functions are all negated at present but could be restored. The only stock electrical or light functions for racing are the rear tail lights. There is no rust noted on the car and it is very nice and solid throughout. The car has two sets of wheels and extra seats included for the buyer. The wheels as noted in the listing photos are BMW mesh wheels from a 320i. I bought these pristine conditions wheels and then had a set a new hoosier race tires mounted. The tires have zero miles on them. The second set of wheels are BMW “alpina style” finned wheels that can be used for rans or just a second set of tires. The car came with a momo corse race seat and a second “instructor seat” that was a street car recaro seat. I have since replaced both with recaro race seats but all four seats will be included. The harnesses are up to date and I have extra new harnesses as well as a window net for the car. I also bought BMW OEM Motorsport decal striping from Roger’s 2002 but have yet to install them. They will be included for the winning bidder. The car runs fantastic and the only thing it needs to go racing is a fire suppression system. It has a electrical disconnect outside and inside. I also just bought a fitted a new Braille super small lightweight (motorcycle size) racing battery. These uniquely small but high amp batteries are fantastic and reduce weight tremendously. Listed below is the general history of the car: 1972 BMW 2002 ORIGINALY OWNED FROM NEW BY A PROFESSIONAL JAGUAR MECHANIC AND WAS DRIVEN IN THE ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE CAR WAS LATER SOLD TO THE OWNER OF A BMW/JAGUAR DEALERSHIP. HE THEN MODIFIED THE CAR FOR VINTAGE RACING USING THE BEST OF EVERYTHING. BODY/SUSPENSION: STOCK 1972 2002 BODY. BRAKE BOOSTER IS 2002 Tii. THE CAR IS FAST AND RELIABLE AS IT SITS. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR ON THE STREET SEVERAL TIMES IN A RURAL AREA AND SHE RUNS AND HANDLES QUITE WELL. THIS IS AN IDEAL CAR TO GO VINTAGE OR SCCA RACING WITHOUT HAVING TO SPEND A FORTUNE. Thanks for the interestOn Apr-11-12 at 16:14:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY A BMW EXPERT THAT THIS CAR WAS ORIGINALLY A TII MODEL NOT A BASE 2002. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INTEREST AND EMAILS. I HAVE ALSO BEEN APPROACHED ABOUT POSSIBLE TRADES - ALTHOUGH I PREFER TO SELL THE CAR I WOULD CONSIDER AN INTERSTING SPORT BIKE ON TRADE. THANKSOn Apr-12-12 at 18:00:57 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had some questions regarding the car's racing history so I added a couple of photos of the logbook. It appears to have been raced in the CACC vintage category in British Columbia. The driver and builder was a Mr. John Ladd, the owner of John Ladd BMW dealership in B.C. It looks as though it was first teched in oct of 1999 with last race in oct of 2001 for a total of only four races at the mission and river's edge circuits, respectively. The roll cage od is 1.5 inches and walls are .120 as seen in the logbook. There is also an AMB transponder bracket located by the left front strut that I forgot to mention in the listing. Thanks for the questions and the interest.
