1961 Nash Metropolitan VIN E83833. Odometer claims 82833 miles. This was like a barn find but actually a back yard find. My son-in-laws parents neighbors were getting up in years and moving in with their kids and had this car sitting on their back patio where they had parked it in 1991 or before having owned it since at least 1974. I bought it in non running condition just to keep it from the scrap yard. The tires were just random pieces of rotten rubber; I had to take the tires off my other metro just to get it home. I put new tires on it and it sat outside for the last two years. This year when I decided to get it running I found it had a stuck cylinder which I poured everything I could think into such that it eventually became unstuck. It runs and drives pretty well but it obviously needs some work. It burns some oil (fairly obvious smoke) which is likely its age along with either shot rings in cylinder 4 (the stuck cylinder) or piston 4 has a pin hole in it from the corrosion damage to the top of the piston. Besides the new tires (two years old and maybe three miles of tread wear) the engine has a new head gasket and valve stem seals. The carburetor has been rebuild and bent back to almost factory new. The generator has no output. The speedometer/odometer does not work at present, I suspect a broken cable. There is a very nicely installed water temp gauge in the dash to the right of the radio. It looks neat enough to be factory but I’m doubtful it is, only because I’ve never seen another one like it. The gas tank and sender are in very nice condition. New brake master cylinder and rear brake cylinders. Front brake cylinders are used ones that were still in good condition from my other Metro. New clutch master cylinder and rebuilt slave cylinder. Brake and clutch systems work fine. Both have DOT 5 silicone fluid. The door seals and other rubber need help. The upholstery, especially in the back is pretty shot. The foam in the seat is dried up and falling out in chunks. There are seat belts installed. Original jack and lug wrench included. Interior rust limited to one spot maybe the size of a fifty cent piece or two on right side of back floor. Panels at base of doors have some rust issues along with a few other spots around the vehicle. Likely other items I should mention but can’t recall at this time.
