Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1965 Galaxie 500 XL. 289 2V, C4, Manual Steering, Manual Brakes, Original Rangoon Red finish, with great patina, some paint missing and some surface rust, but that adds to the charm I think. Body in very nice shape, nice thing about this car is from what I can tell it has never had any bodywork, what you see has never been touched. Looks like the hood was painted years ago and there is some touch up around the driver's door lock but other than that this car is a survivor. 289 starts right up and runs quiet, new exhaust, great oil pressure 38lbs at hot idle. 78,391 original (as of today) miles. Records show 77,200 in 1994, so I am confident this is correct mileage. Has some minor rust in front of rear wheel wells (pictured) and a slight scrape on LR quarter (pictured) but body is very solid. Drive as is or fix. Trunk solid. Frame has 2" by 1/2" hole in bottom rail behind LF wheel. Side and top rails good in that area, rest of frame good. Brand new Vintique Magnum 500s and tires, I have the original wheels and proper XL spinners and will be included in the sale. Runs, drives great. I drive it everyday now that the weather has broken. Pretty much everything works except the gas gauge. Floor pans solid, quarter size hole left front drivers floor pan, otherwise pans are nice! Front end tight, just a solid driving car. New timing chain, fuel pump, water pump, hoses, belts, distributor, new brakes, master cyl, wheel cylinders, rubber lines and system converted to Dot5 silicone. Needs carpet, headliner, I redid the passenger door panel, rest of the interior needs attention, old worn, but all there. Roll up windows all work, all glass good and is the original Carlite. Great car to drive as is, or excellent restoration project. Clear Michigan title in my name. I sell to the US ONLY, can help load, I am located in Flat Rock, Mi 15 miles South of Detroit. $500 deposit required within 24 hours of auction close. Be happy to answer any questions you may have, call me on 734-735-2086. Thanks and happy bidding. On Mar-20-12 at 18:56:04 PDT, seller added the following information: In with the paperwork I found an index card, presumably written by the cars original owner and probably posted in the window when the car was first sold in 1983: "Galaxie 500 XL is a classic. I bought this car new 19 years ago Oct - 24 - 1964 Never driven on snow salted roads All metal, no body filler Original Paint New brake shoes, all four wheels Double steel belted white wall radials Oil and filter always changed between 2-3000 miles New plugs and points changed between 9 & 10000 miles Has 289 motor, has never been cleaned New battery." On Mar-23-12 at 18:34:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Have had a few questions as to the condition of the hem flanges at the bottom of the doors. The bottom of the doors are extremely clean with no rust. On Mar-23-12 at 18:44:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Also had some questions on where the paint is worn off. The paint is worn through on the passenger side of roof and top of the left front fender. You may choose to touch it up, but I think the 'patina" adds to the character to the car. And lastly, a question on the fender mirror. In 1965, Galaxies were not delivered with any mirrors from the factory. The dealer added the mirrors on or before delivery. The original owner appearantly requested the fender mirror as there are no marks where a door mirror was ever installed.
