Vehicle Detail
All original 58 dove blue SC, with 90% original paint. Original, logoed windshield glass, undamaged. Historic 1958 NY plates. Beautiful machine, the one I said I would never sell but I am building a house and priorities have changed. This bus was used most of it's working life delivering vegetables in the northern Bay Area (California). I bought it seven years ago and have enjoyed it and taken good care of it, including the following: - Repaired rear corners (done by VW bus specialist Tim Stark in Rochester, NY ). Treasure chest door replaced with one from Gerson (best around) and painted by Tim. All wheels painted by him to original specifications as well. - Found and installed an all-original SC-only rear bumper (not a reproduction) in the correct color for the bus, matching the one in the front perfectly. This wasn't cheap. - Found a correct 36HP engine (bus came to me with a 1600), which it is now installed and running beautifully. A lot of new and NOS parts installed in this process, including a new muffler, seals, spark plug cables, 6V hot start relay, etc. etc. - 6V system with new battery. - New tires - New window rubber throughout. - Repaired a few rips in the original canvas. - VW factory "birth certificate" included (see photo). - New brakes - Correct, undamaged tailight Hella lenses. - Correct, original seat upholstery in very good shape, needs restiching at driver's side. - Original pedal pan, often missing - Installed NOS Huf ignition with two matching keys. - Nice Sapphire I radio installed (not connected) - Perfectly working transmission - Correct 36HP hand start gear (pulley nut, engine tin and rear apron, plus handle), so you can hand-start it!! I only messed with the few areas that had potentially bad rust, the rest was left original and so there are less than perfect areas (scratches, small dents, and a few rust holes in the cabin floor at both ends-rest is nice) in this 52 year old paint. It still shines nicely, after all that time! Dash and interior cabin area in good, original condition. I also have a complete set of wood slats for the bed, cut as the originals and ready to install, which are included in the sale (see one of the photos). The bus is in the North East, but it has been a western bus and as such very dry. I bought it in California and drove it to Oregon and after a few years trucked it to NY. Driven in summer only. After 20 years into buses, I have come to the conclusion that single cabs and a few other commercial models are the cream of the bus line, at least to me. In any case, I can talk for hours about this bus, feel free to contact me with any questions. Bus is registered and insured in my name. Clear title, ready to transfer. The bus is in my garage in Delmar, NY (just south of Albany). Please, no tire kickers, I am busy and only selling the truck out of need. Having said that, I will be more than happy to answer any questions if you are genuinely interested in it. On Mar-18-12 at 16:26:42 PDT, seller added the following information: - I have not replaced all of the bus' light bulbs with 6v ones, it needs to be done. The same goes for the windshield wiper motor, which I can provide if you are keeping it stock. I just haven't had time to get to this. The wire loom is all factory original and in great shape. On Mar-19-12 at 03:45:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I was forgetting: - New 6v starter, new transmission shaft seal, church key and holder. All orignal door, ceiling, and kick panels in the cabin. I brought the sticker shown at the factory museum in Wolfsburg. - I have received a few questions about the condition of the body. It has no rust other than what is hsown in the front floors, which would not be difficult to fix. I've taken care of the expensive part already (fixing the rear corners, replacing the battery tray, and fixing one spot at the treasure chest) trying to change as little as possible from it's original condition. This bus is not a show queen, it has been a working truck for most of its life and like I mentioned, it shows in a few dents and scratches around the body. But it is altogheter an "unmolested" bus; complete and very original. Something hard to find these days. Probably not a bus for you if you are planning to heavily-modify it! On Mar-19-12 at 08:03:22 PDT, seller added the following information: One more thing: the bed is really solid. It has surface rust in general, still keeping original paint in some areas, but no bad rust at all. On Mar-21-12 at 14:47:50 PDT, seller added the following information: This photo shows the starting handle included: http://torlasco.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/dscn0815.jpg Like mentioned, all the correct components to hand-start the bus are included. On Mar-25-12 at 20:28:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are a few more photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62759436@N02/sets/72157629669224533/
