1961 Austin-Healey Bug-Eye Sprite MkI This is a beautiful, super nice Bug-Eye Sprite that was fully restored a few years ago. It is has always been a “dry climate” car, having lived in So. California, Nevada and Boise Idaho. It has been lovingly cared for during the last 20 years by a knowledgeable enthusiast. It’s now available for your driving pleasure. It was fully disassembled and repainted inside and out. The paint is still very nice with a great shine and only a couple of minor chips from driving that have been touched up. The chrome grille and bumpers were re-chromed and are super nice. The cockpit trim rails were polished. Hubcaps are in excellent condition. The car was totally rebuilt during the restoration and the front and rear brakes have recently been redone. The engine is an original 948 cc. unit and it runs very strong with lots of power. It has good oil pressure and does not smoke. This is a spunky little car that runs like a top. Has a slight oil drip from the engine…just to prove it’s a true British Sports Car! Carburetors have been rebuilt and balanced. The car starts right up and quickly goes to a smooth idle. The transmission is still the original style 4-speed with a non-synchro first gear. Steering is quick and easy. The tires are very good. The dashboard instruments are original and are in working condition, with the exception of a recalcitrant speedometer (fluctuates). The tachometer will require a connection-cable- adapter at the generator (I’ve never been bothered by the non-working tach. I’m listening to the rev of the engine.) The interior paneling has been completely redone this winter. The seat upholstery was redone during the restoration and shows only slight wear. The convertible top and the tonneau are in excellent condition. The side curtains have new plexi-glass and the weather stripping is in very good shape. You will have the full weather equipment package. All in all a nice driving car that was fully restored a few years ago and driven and enjoyed since and still looks great. The Bug-Eye is an impressive little car with great comfort for their size and the huge fun factor of driving a short wheelbase car. There is a surprising amount of interior leg-room in these cars. The car has been driven only locally, never in inclement weather, and has always been parked in a heated garage. It’s really a head-turner. Have some fun with this one!
