Vehicle Detail
This is a 1923 Dragmaster Streetster kit from the 60’s. It was built and sold out of Dragmaster Company in Carlsbad, California by the legendary Dode Martin (google him). It is a fiberglass roadster body with a short PU box for the gas tank and battery. Grill is a steel ’32 . This nice flamed roadster sits on a tube frame with torsion bar suspension. The power train is a 283 ci SBC with 2.02 heads and 650 cfm Edelbrock carburetor coupled with a T10 4-speed manual transmission running through a Falcon rear-end. Main and rod bearings were replaced in 2006, along with a new SO CAL coil, water pump, rebuilt alternator, and rebuilt master cylinder. Duel point ignition was replaced with a Petronix electronic ignition while maintaining the Mallory distributor housing. Fluids changed regularly, with recent 5w30 oil and Dot 5 brake fluids. Drum brakes all around, and it rides on 15” steel smoothies with 255’s in the rear and 185’s in the front. I have most, if not all, receipts/records for the repairs and routine maintenance. The interior is upholstered in white nauglahyde (“pleather”) with red piping, and the carpet is red, along with seatbelts for two. Both the upholstery and carpet show some wear. This Roadster was a “Terrific T Pick” for Goodguys in Phoenix in August 2006, and a World of Wheels “Outstanding” in Phoenix in January 2007. The Roadster is titled and registered in California through November of 2012. I have the title in hand and there are no past due registration fees for the next buyer. This Roadster is a driver and has seen several 500 mile trips to North California, along with routine weekend drives and the occasional commute to work. The previous owner used to drive this to Spokane, WA from Phoenix, AZ where he stayed during the hot Arizona summers. The Roadster is very reliable and has been looked after meticulously by me and the past owner, however, it is a driver, and as such, shows signs of this. The following could be addressed by the next owner to improve the drivability as well as appearance: (1) The speedo and mileage gauge are non-operational, as such, mileage is unknown as is the speed you’re traveling when in operation; (2) 2nd gear is a little tough to engage until you know how to get it into gear, as such, the new owner should source the issue; (3) The whitewall tires, while they have plenty of tread, are “yellowing” due to sun and road exposure; (4) The chrome on various parts are starting to tarnish, including the windshield frame, and various front-end components; (5) Various paint chips on the body and frame from routine driving; (6) Small dents on the bottom of the ’32 grill created while driving (potholes); (7) Upholstery and carpet have signs of wear (small scratches and stains from shoes); This is and has been a very enjoyable Roadster. It starts up each and every time, and idles and drives very strong. The approximate 220 hp 283 has plenty of go for this light Roadster. I have described the Roadster to the best of my ability, along with the known “issues”, however, this is being sold “as is” and without any guarantees, either expressed or implied. I am selling as I have a 3 yo daughter and another on the way, so I have very little time, and soon to be no time, to take this out. Please view the photos in their entirety. If you have any questions, please email me and I will do my best to respond to you with accurate answers and in a timely manner. I will only accept PayPal, cash or money order, and will assist the buyer with shipping/transportation if necessary. I will not accept trades. On Mar-12-12 at 17:36:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had several questions regarding the title. Please note that the California title has this as a 1923 model year and Ford as the Make. The registration is the same. Note that the title does not list "Kit", "UBuild", "Rebuild", or such words suggesting it is anything other than a 1923 Ford. I can send a copy of the title (with sensative information removed) to those inquiring. On Mar-13-12 at 11:39:25 PDT, seller added the following information: I am adding the following points of clarification for a few recurring questions received thus far: I am 6’2” and can drive the Roadster without issue. My left knee is slightly higher than the tub by a few inches. Also, I'd recommend not driving with flip-flops or wide shoes. The gap between the clutch and brake pedal is small. The shifter does not interfere when I’m driving until it’s in reverse. Only then do I have to adjust my right leg. My wife and I fit comfortibly in the Roadster and do not feel overly stuffed in. The steering has some play, but I would not consider it loose. Rather, the play is similar to most 60’s cars I have driven. The Roadster has a short wheelbase, as such, it moves around quite easily at freeway speeds (excess of 60 mph). However, this never stopped my wife and I from several trips to Northern California, with the longest stretch being ~400 miles (only stopping for gas).On Mar-15-12 at 10:24:56 PDT, seller added the following information: I will add a video of the Roadster running this evening. In the meantime, I have scanned an article from the February 1964 Hot Rod magazine, where a Dragmaster Streetster is build in 8 hours. The article has detailed pictures of the kit, along with back ground on Dragmasters Company as well as Dode Martin and Jim Nelson. The original magazine will go along with the Roadster to the new owner, as well as all service records, documents and receipts. Please note that the magazine article and the hotrod built is not this Roadster. Thank you.On Mar-15-12 at 20:51:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are two links to video of the Roadster. The first is with the car running/idling. The second is a general walk around. I tried to show examples of the chrome patina and the slight damage to the grill (bottom of grill) where it came into contact with frame. Please excuse the background talking and sound effects from my daughter, she fascinated when she sees anyone with camera. http://vimeo.com/user10873444/dragmaster http://vimeo.com/user10873444/dragmaster2 background Please continue to ask me any questions. If you would like additional photos or video, please advise. Also, I am more than happy to talk through the history. There are more specifics than what is listed in the listing. FINALLY - please only bid if you truly intent to buy. Anyone with zero feedback must email me first. I will cancel any suspect bids immediately if necessary. Thank you to all those who have complied with this new request.
