Hello and thank you for taking the time to check out this 1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with 68,000 original miles. Let’s start by saying this Land Cruiser is one of the most stock and original Land Cruisers around – all the way down to the original paint. Here’s some background on the vehicle: I believe I am the 3rd or 4th owner and it was originally a California car that was pretty much garaged in Northern California before being sold to an owner in Oregon. I’m not aware of ANY RUST. The motor, trans, brakes, lights, turn signals, heater, wipers headlights, etc, all work well – I recently drove the vehicle on an 900 mile trip and she didn’t miss a beat going 60-65 mph for two days straight.The rig has the original straight six and three speed transmission and its four wheel drive works fine and has locking hubs. The two flip down seats in the rear are near perfect and work fine.The previous owner told me that the rear bumper was a dealer add on item as was the auxiliary (second) fuel tank – both installed by the dealer (so I guess technically they are original to the car, just not from the factory). I only use the primary gas tank so the secondary tank may need to be flushed before using if it’s something you’re interested in.The front seats have been re-covered and are NOT original and are about the only thing I am aware of that is not original from the factory or dealer. This vehicle can either be left alone with its original patina and character or you could easily restore it. A recent CNN/Money magazine story said the early 1970s Toyota Land Cruisers are now one of the most soft after collector vehicles (see http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2012/autos/1202/gallery.surprising-collectible-cars/6.html)There are a few things it could need although I drive the vehicle often and they don’t bother me: brakes feel like they need to be bled; at some point it could use a muffler; steering has a bit of play in it. Other than that, the vehicle is in solid condition – some paint chips, the usual rattles and wear spots but overall it will take you a long time to find a 42 year Toyota Land Cruiser this nice: look around -- most have been modified, off-roaded to death or kept in bad weather and are chock full of rust.I encourage you to call with questions: 949-285-6966 and I reserve the right to end the auction early since I will likely be advertising it locally. On Mar-14-12 at 19:27:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Added March 14 at 7:20 PT: A few people have asked about the rear bumper -- from all that I can tell an original bumper will bolt right on and there would NOT be large holes to fill, etc -- there are two small screws that have been used on each side of the bumper (see pics) so if you were to take the current bumper off there would be two small holes in the side of the body. I have done my best to show this using my low quality camera phone. . .but you get the idea.
