Vehicle Detail
This is about the 200th TR-3, manufactured in 1956 under serial number TS-9399L and first registered in New York in 1957. It has a long history as a racer and more recently as a vintage racer. I have only recently refurbished the car with the aim of making the nice, very dependable driver it is today. While it had a frame off restoration about 13 years ago, with new floors, rockers and various other body panels, the work was done with the aim of making a strong, solid vintage racer, not a show car. Areas where sheet-metal typically rusts or stress cracks have been beefed up. Where pieces were repaired rather than replaced, rusted metal was cut away, new metal welded in and waterproof aluminum filler employed as needed. With the exception of a couple of seasons of vintage racing, the car sat in the garage until 2009-11 when I stripped it to bare body and frame, repainted it and build up a fresh engine. The car was completely rebuilt, by which I mean all suspension components, engine, transmission, rear end and brakes. It retains racing features like TR-6 front suspension components, stiff springs, one-inch sway bar and aluminum front hubs. It comes with a bolt in rollbar, which SCCA and SVRA won't allow, or it can be had with a welded in bar or a cage if you want to race. I believe that you will find it has about the same ride as stock, but with absolutely flat cornering. It is painted in pearl white lacquer with a lacquer clearcoat. As you will see it needs the wheel hump upholstery, glove box and has a plexiglass removable windshield, all as the result of my ambivalence about making it a driver or a racer. I have hundreds of extra parts which will go with the car, such as a tonneu cover with rollbar holes, brand new top, top boot and misc. side curtians. Also, depending upon your plans and the agreed price, a barely used close ratio transmission, 4:10 rear end, stainless exhaust header, aluminum flywheel, Crane ignition, MSD box, Mallory distributor, oil cooler, aluminum radiator, electric fan, one wire alternator, racing balancer and pully set. I saved the original drum brake and suspension parts. Holes in the trunk floor for a cage and fuel cell have presentable but temporary patches owing to my ongoing ambivalence. \ If you want to just bomb around town, do club tours or rallies or perhaps make a SCCA solo or vintage racer you will love this car. If you want to show a car at Amelia Island etc. this is not the car for you. Milage is unknown, engine # does not match. SVRA log included.
