Vehicle Detail
1967 Volkswagen Type II Deluxe Restored. Has 42k OG miles, numbers matching. History: This is my '67 split window. I've owned it for 2 years. I found it in the back of a body shop completely disassembled but running. I looked at it for about 2 months before purchasing it, as I knew it was going to be a large under-taking; however, I was overwhelmed by the numbers matching original motor and said, "She must be saved." Now, you may ask yourself, "How do I know it's original mileage," the gentleman that owned told me that he bought it from a privately owned grocery store, and they said they bought it back in 1967 and used it as their delivery van for several years until they parked it to upgrade to a more modern delivery van. With that information I immediately pulled the motor for top half cleansing, and in doing so, with the engine number identified as [H0 708595] after top half disassembly all the signs of originality were there. I then retorqued the case, heads, did a thorough brush down cleaning, and then reassembled. One modification, I upgraded the carburetor to a 30\31 pict having boxed and shelved her original carburetor, [30 pict 1] which will come with the bus. In the Shop: It was the time to continue the disassembly. I removed all items on the interior and exterior I could get my hands on. I then began to cut and plasma cut all rusted panel and clean all areas. The following areas were replaced: complete front floor, front inner valance, front outer valance, driver side rocker, passenger side outer with strengthener and inner rocker, both lower cargo doors. Dog legs did not need replacing, they were in perfect shape. All panels were overlapped, seamed, spot & MIG welded. After rust shield was applied to all panel seams I double backed with LORD Fusor product seam sealer. Then she was completely sanded down I applied high build direct to metal primer for blocking. In The Paint Booth: Her paint is Diamont Base Coat/Clear Coat. 3 coats of base & 3 coats of clear. After paint I let her sit for about 3 weeks before assembling her. In that time, I wet sanded & buffed. Assembly: The complete rubber seal kit was ordered for all windows and doors. I also ordered all 6 pop out window frames from Bus Boys; by the way, those windows are a perfect remanufactured item and I highly recommend them. So, the assembly started, it took about 2 months. The headliner is brand new and took an entire weekend. I completely went through the electrical system not removing nor replacing the main harness, it is the original. All connections on switches were polished to ensure good signal. I completely polished all aluminum belt moldings and installed velvet green trim line. The rack is actually two roof rack kits customized with 8 foot oak planks which were soaked in teak oil and then assembled. The rack will also come with the bus. All new interior was ordered from Wolfsburg West and installed; also a great kit to buy, however it is pricey. The rubber mats are her originals and in great shape. The middle seat is her original, ’67 only. I also have her original tool kit and jack kit that will come with the bus. She’s my daily driver: As you can see in the pictures I’ve taken she’s my daily driver hence 3 car seats because I use her to take my kids to school and daycare. She is very reliable, very smooth, shifts well, responds well. The steering is 90%, all new drag link tie rods were applied and spindles were redone for 3 1/2 inch drop in front only. I have her original spindles to place back at original height upon request if necessary. She has new tires [185/75/R14]. Why am I selling? I have always owned a bus for the past 20 years and I enjoy saving them. When they are done I move on to the next one as you can see in the photographs. More Photos
